Hey,

I recently bought this HDD caddy from neomodus  (https://www.amazon.com/Caddy-Omen-17-an000nr-Through-17-an1XXnr/dp/B07H3F1L53).  This HDD caddy was reported to work in some other HP forum threads for this model.

When I opened up my HP Omen 17 (model 17-an179) , I noticed that the ZIF connector already had something plugged into it. Does anyone know what this could be and whether it is safe to detach? The cable goes underneath the motherboard.

Here are some photos of the inside and the mysterious cable. https://imgur.com/a/2Y116Uf

Any ideas what this could be for?

It turns out that this connector was being used for the RGB keyboard on my model. I did disconnect it and connected the hdd but windows did not detect the hdd. I've returned the caddy and reconnected the cable to get the keyboard lighting back.

I wonder if there is a firmware option or upgrade that allows for an hdd on this connector
