Please update with your results. Seems a little sketchy that HP support is hoping to resolve OPs problem through private message and not publicly with others experiencing the same issue.

Edit: Just noticed now that adjusting mouse pointer speed through windows does nothing at all either. Okay If its being controlled by some installed software on the laptop (although a minor annoyance), but I've yet to find anything.

When I had the problems on my original laptop I tried Linux as well which still had the problem.  Since Linux had the problem as well as Windows it's doubtful it's a driver issue.  Best case it can be fixed with a BIOS update, worst case it's an actual hardware problem.  I was on the phone with HP support for over an hour the first night when my ticket was escalated.  After waiting 3 days I finally decided to take a chance and exchange it.  I was lucky that my second one worked.  Now we are going on 6 days and I still haven't heard anything from HP.  A little disappointing.   I would be surprised if HP isn't aware there is a problem with this particular laptop.  I can't say that I've noticed a problem with the mouse pad.  If possible I would suggest trying to exchange it.  I was willing to exchange it once, if the second had the same problem I was going to get my money back and wait for a definitive fix either through BIOS or some other means and possibly re-buy it.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah if Linux doesn't work its hardware. I updated the bios with fingers crossed and nothing. Tmw i got an appt w gsquad and if they confirm I'll exchange and hope for the best.

Pretty sure they know, and BB with a deal that no one can match may just be in the hopes users either don't notice or don't care. Thanks again.

think I've found a solution. I took mine back to best buy and got another one. The brightness was working but after updating the BIOS it stopped working again. So I went and rolled back the BIOS update and it started working again.

See if you can rollback your BIOS to F.02 from F.06 by holding F2 during the boot and in Firmware Management select BIOS Rollback and then Rollback. If you don't have that BIOS version listed you should be able to download it from their support page and put it on a usb drive and install it from there. But still can't get it to work in Linux though.

Strange because mine wasn't working before I even did a BIOS update so I assume that was F.02. Thanks for the suggestion, but just rolled back and still the same. Pretty bummed, because I didn't want to have to hassle and go take it in tomorrow. Also a bummer it doesn't work on Linux because I tend to dual boot all my machines.

Linux Update: I got the brightness working in ubuntu 20.04 by loading the 5.8.3 kernel instead of 5.4. You can use the https://github.com/bkw777/mainline to easily install kernel versions, but since these are generic kernels you need to either sign it yourself you disable the Secure Boot in BIOS

Thank you for this, at least I have confidence in a dual-boot again. I have an update myself. So I took it back to best buy, and even gsquad didn't know what it was. I got an exchange and its working fine out-of-the-box.

Someone on Reddit indicated they rolled back the BIOS update to the previous version and that fixed their issue. I haven't tried that yet but perhaps that could work. Though I recall having issues with the brightness before I updated to the most recent BIOS version.

I just bought this laptop from bestbuy and the only thing that doesnt work is that the screen brightness does not change. There is no option to change it in the display settings and it doesnt even get lowered when put into battery saving mode. How do i fix this?

Fix this issue by taking it back. Some have reported success doing all sorts of things, but I updated BIOS, graphics and windows drivers, AMD software, and nothing. Save yourself the time and just get an exchange.

The one I exchanged for had no problem, and had same original BIOS, graphic drivers, etc.  I believe I heard from a reviewer that HP got panels from a different manufacturer on this Omen and unfortunately there are some faulty ones.
