Hello,

I recently had issues of my laptop going to about 85C pre-bios update. So I had a look on some forums and saw it was due to the Bios, so naturally I just installed the bios update and now my fans are going crazy on starting up my machine, and just being idle.

1) I'm new to laptop heats and what they should be, but when my computer is idle (on chrome browsing websites,) its about currently showing me between 45-60 on HP Omen Command Center, and when I am playing games such as world of warcraft and Red Dead Redemption 2 on just under recommended settings for my machine, my heat can go up to about 80/85C - Is this normal?

2)This machine is about just under a month old, so nothing could be wrong with it, its had the same heat roughly since new, the only thing thats bugging me now is the fan noise on start up, If it is possible, is it advised to revert back to my old bios so I dont have these LOUD fan noises?

Hello @Sabersin

The temps with Chrome open and then the higher temps while gaming is normal yes.

Tell me the product number of your omen. Its in the HP support assistant. Ill see what your bios notes say when you do. Thanks.

OK thanks. Just so you know, your full model number is OMEN by HP 15-dc1015na.

Looking at the drivers page for your model, which bios did you install?

And did you get it from there or did you use the HP Support Assistant?

Hi, I installed the version F.12 Rev.A as the other one said it wasnt compatible for my machine. I also downloaded HP Support Assistant and ran through some checks as well and it updated some drivers for me via the program.

OK. So I take it you were updating the bios because you were concerned about the CPU temp reaching 85c while gaming.

Its a laptop and they don't cool like a nice desktop will. Its normal for an Omen to run that temp. There are lots of users who have issues with their Omens running 95c, so you were lucky.

Is the fan ramping up when you first power on the laptop, but settles down after Windows is running?

I wouldn't be too concerned with that. But you can try reverting the bios back to the previous state if you want.

BUT word of Caution!!! I dont advise anyone keep tinkering with upgrading/downgrading a bios if its not necessary.

A Bios is delicate and if it were to fail during the write process, it can brick your whole PC.

Also, I never update any bios from the HP Support Assistant, I grab the file from the drivers page instead. Other drivers are OK to update from the HPSA though.

Follow the instructions on this link...

Hi yes, I updated the bios after researching about high temps and that was the fix so i updated it.

Yes basically whenever my laptop comes on, for about 30 seconds-1minute  it ramps up then goes off, and of course it goes off during gaming where i reach temps of 87-90 max. (after playing for a couple of hours). Then I usually turn my laptop off to let it rest and do other things. (assuming this is the right thing to do?)

I wont revert my bios, ill keep it as it is now I have your clarification, thank you for your help Photo

@Sabersin

If the fan is turning off after a couple hours of usage and you have to turn off the laptop to prevent overheating, that is not good. The fans should not be doing that.

I would contact HP Support for warranty issues at this point.

The fans arent turning off after a couple of hours, I'm just turning my laptop off as it does get quite hot (the body).
