A CL40 is only found in XMP memory modules.  In short, you might think it's compatible and use it, but strangely enough, HP honors the warranty—except for issues caused by memory damage, in which case the warranty doesn't apply.

But the stick specifications and technical details state that it does not have XMP and uses Plug N Play. I have an XMP compatible stick which I use for work that has an intel XMP sticker on it whereas this one doesn't have it.

I've been using it and there's been 0 issues. Seems like a bios flash failure caused an issue. It was either in a broken state or smthng shorted out. Either way, at the current time when ram prices are through the roof, we can't look for options that aren't even available or highly priced. The ram type and speed are what matter and most of the time getting a kit is better. That's all.
