Hi there, i've had my HP Omen 16-c0005sl for some time now, and for about the same amount of time i've been experiencing a quite frustrating problem:
Almost everytime i game setting my Gaming Hub on Performance mode, after some time, it may vary from a couple of seconds to minutes, my fans completely stop, going from 5500 to 0, and they remain so until i unplug my charger and plug it back; this way, they start working again for a couple of seconds and than stop. This problem almost alway happens exlusively on performance mode, though it has happened, far more rarely but has, also on Balanced - which i switch to after 3 or 4 fan stop, losing fps, but at least i am able to play, at least most of the times.
I've tried basically everything i've come across as solution in this past years, from updating drivers, to running HW checks in the bios, which are never failed, refreshing windows, obviusly uninstalling and reinstalling the Hub, multiple times, i also updated the omen hub SDK, limited my CPU first to 99 then to 95 on my power plan, basically everything that is talked about on the internet, at least that i have been able to find through my researches.
But still, the problem is very much present, and i have basically no more ideas neither informations on what to event try.
Has anyone had the same problem and solved it? If yes, how did you solve it?
In case there is some higher ups reading, do you have any idea what else may i try?
In case it might help, i have the HP Omen 16-c0005sl with Ryzen 7 5800h and 3070

Hi @GioN_,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Update BIOS and Drivers:
- Ensure that your BIOS and all drivers, especially the graphics and chipset drivers, are up to date. Updated drivers can resolve hardware compatibility and performance issues.
Check OMEN Gaming Hub Settings:
- Review the settings within OMEN Gaming Hub to ensure there aren't any conflicting configurations that could affect fan behavior. Try resetting the Gaming Hub settings to default and then reconfigure them for performance mode.
Power Settings:
- Check your laptop’s power settings. Sometimes power profiles or settings in Windows can cause unexpected changes in behavior, like fan speed alteration or stopping. Set your power plan to high performance in Windows Settings.
Inspect Thermal Thresholds:
- Confirm that the device isn't reaching thermal thresholds that might cause the system to stop fans to prevent damage. Ensure that your vents are not blocked and the laptop is clean and free from excessive dust.
Conduct Hardware Diagnostic:
- Use the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool (available on HP’s website) to run a comprehensive test on components, including fans, to identify possible issues.
Firmware Issue:
- This might be related to firmware. If all software updates have been applied and the issue persists, it might require a deeper investigation regarding firmware or operational settings.
Reset System Management:
- A system management reset might help resolve the issue. Shut down the laptop, disconnect all external devices, unplug the charger, and then press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds.

Hi @Kuroi_Kenshi,
Thank you for your quick response.
Regarding your suggestions, up to now i have:
* Updated my BIOS a all of my drivers, including graphic and the ones from the HP Support page
* Checked Omen gaming hub setting, tho i can't really do much there, i basically have never changed anythong and used auto fan mode (i have tried to use manual mode to troubleshoot the problem but it still occurs), i have also uninstalled the actual folder from WindowsApps, ensuring a completely fresh reset, but nothing
* I use the "Recommended from HP" power settings, i do not have a "high performance", though i think it is the same, just named differently
* I do not know what my actual thermal threshold are, it could be temps, though the temperatures i am experiencing have always been the same. I think they are a bit high, with my processor running up to 101°C while under load, infact i will try and re-apply thermal paste, to checkl if something changes; i have not been able to remove the cooler due to a stuck screw, but i will try again in a couple of days
* I have executed multiple times the HW diagnostic, and fans always succeed at those.
* It could very well be a firmware issue, though i have no idea how to check that, and, in case, how to solve it
* I have also excecuted the System Management resent, even unplagging my battery before holding the power buttong, resetting CMOS and ensuring a complety discharge of capacitors and what not, still nothig.
As of right now, through the various tests i have conducted (which may very well have been done wrong, i am nowhere near an expert), i came up with 3 main possibilities:
* It is a OGH sort of bug, but having tried resets, uninstall, complete clean, including cache folders, i would not know what else to try in regard to this - Though it is not much of a chance, since it happens also with third party software, at max i think it would be a bug with some components that both OGH and external software use (my researches have brought me to think that it is the Embedded Controller)
* It's a temp threshold problem, though i clean my pc quite regularly, so my only other option in this case is to try and repaste, wich i will do as soon as possible with some Noctua nt-h2, which as per my google research should be good for laptops
* It's some sort of inner firmware that i cannot control, not even from BIOS, but it is kinda of a long shot, because i would have no info on that.
In any case, i appreciate the response, i will try to repaste the CPU and GPU chips ASAP, hoping that something changes, i will later update the thread, in case someone happens to have this same problem.
In case you have any other suggestions, they would be gratly appreciated.
Best regards

Hi @GioN_,
Thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed update, it really helps narrow things down. I appreciate all the troubleshooting you’ve already done; it’s clear you’ve been thorough.
Given the information you’ve shared, here are a few additional points and clarifications you might find useful:
1. CPU Temperatures & Fan Behavior
Reaching 101°C on the Ryzen 7 5800H under load is very close to its thermal limit, and in some cases, certain firmware safety routines may behave unpredictably when operating at these extreme temperatures. Reapplying thermal paste (Noctua NT-H2 is indeed an excellent choice) and ensuring even screw pressure on the heatsink might help stabilize temps and prevent abnormal fan cutoffs.
2. Testing Without OGH in the Loop
For troubleshooting purposes, try fully uninstalling OMEN Gaming Hub and its SDK, then letting the system run under default BIOS-controlled fan behavior for a gaming session. If the fans still cut out in Performance loads, it points more toward firmware/EC or thermal hardware.
3. Additional EC Reset
Since you’ve already done a standard power drain and CMOS reset, you can also try:
Disconnecting charger and battery.
Holding the power button for 60 seconds instead of 15–20, to ensure a deeper EC reset.
I hope this helps.

Hi @Kuroi_Kenshi
So, little update. I changed my thermal paste, and my temps, especially on the cpu side dropped quite significantly, going from 101°/102° C, down to around 85°C while playing on performance mode. Unfortunately, the problem i'am having with my fans is still not solved. They beheave decently for a while (while meaning couple of minutes) to then get a couple of seconds of what looks like hiccups, going up and down on speed, to then stop completely, to 0 rpm.
Regarding you second suggestion, i have kind of already done that, but, as i said, the problem occurs only in performance mode, that can be enabled only via OGH, so the problem very much probably would not appear, but still it wouldn't because i would not be in actual performance mode. I also did hold the button for longer, but as i said, still nothing.
Repasting was kind of my last reserve, i don't really know what to try next, it it's good to have repasted the chips, since temperatures did drop, but at this point almost everything aimes at some kind of bug. I woudl try and reinstall windows, but i kinda cannot, since i use this laptop also for uni, and have kind of a lot of different files i cannot lose.
If you have any other suggestions, i would greatly apprecieate them.
In any case, thank a lot for your participation in trying to solve my problem.
Hoping to hear for a different solution

Hi @Garp_senchau,
I was thinking about contacting the support, but not having any information about how much it might cost me scares me a bit.
Could i have some sort of idea in, terms of price range, for how much the nominal charge might come out to?
Thanks again.

Unfortunately no.
From what i have been able to understand, also thanks to another guy's help, it basically has to do with something wrong in the motherboard, so there basically is no actual valid solution, especially considering that i have tried i think every single software related solution proposed, even ones that did not concern directely my problem.
My strong advice for you would be:
- If you still have the possibility to return the pc and get your money, do that and go with something else, they are not all this bad.
- If you can't return it, but still have some kind of warranty, USE IT, take it somewhere HP related, either ship it or go to a physical store, explain your problem and hope for the best
- if both of these options are excluded due to elapsed time and expired warranties, the solution is to just continue playing in balanced mode, yes you will give up some performance, but at least you will be able play.
As sad as it sound, it seems like this is not something new, but apparently HP is not really concerned with resolving it.
Hope this helps you, and, honestly, hope you are still in time to return the machine and possibily change it.

Thanks! Although it makes me more worried!
HP should already have an official response about what's happening and how to fix it.
If HP could tell you which component is faulty, you could take the computer to a technical service and not continue losing money!
