Hi everyone,
I’m having a serious issue with my HP Omen 17 (i7-13700HX, RTX 4060, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD).
Issue:
The fans run, but the screen stays black.
Caps Lock key does not light up (no blinking codes).
No display output at all (even with an external monitor).
After getting a diagnostic check, I was told that the GPU or motherboard might have failed. The frustrating part is that this failure happened just after my warranty expired. Are there any known repair programs or solutions for this issue?
I’m disappointed that a high-end gaming laptop has failed so soon after the warranty ended.

Hi @Softblue567
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand how frustrating this must be, especially given the timing with your warranty expiration. Here's a guide to address the issue:
Steps to Troubleshoot and Resolve
Power Drain/Hard Reset
- Disconnect the laptop from the power adapter.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.
- Plug the adapter back in and power on the laptop to see if the display responds.
External Monitor Check
- Even though you mentioned no output to an external monitor, ensure you're using the correct HDMI/DisplayPort cable and input source. Try connecting to a different monitor or TV.
- If there's no response, it confirms a hardware-related issue.
BIOS Recovery
- A corrupted BIOS could cause a black screen. Perform a recovery:
- Turn off the laptop and press Windows + B, then hold the power button for a few seconds.
- Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B until the BIOS recovery screen appears (if functional).
Inspect for Loose RAM or Components
- If you're comfortable opening the laptop, reseat the RAM and check connections for the GPU or motherboard.
- Caution: Only proceed if you're familiar with handling internal components.
