Likely no----I don't have any dedicated registry cleaner apps, didn't honestly think about it for a new PC.

Thats GOOD, dont run one. Just needed to know if you did.

I still think you have a daunting task ahead with reinstalling.

It might have been a Windows update that sent this south.

Problem is, if this has been going on for some time now, you wouldn't know what restore point to revert to if you had that option enabled.

In the future... If you reinstall to a new drive some day, here's what I would do.

Don't add any software until you get the OCC installed and running first. Then go to Windows Restore Points and enable it and make sure you allocate at least 10GB of space for them.

Then create a restore point.

Then start adding all your other stuff.

When you get it all completed as you need, create an Image Backup onto an external drive.

I would periodically create new Image Backups as you change things around or such. Some guys create a backup weekly or even daily, but I find that is really too extreme, depending on how much changing you do.

For what it's worth, the Omen Command Center never had full functionality on my computer and I got it brand new, so I almost certainly don't have a restore point to address the issues with the app (but a good idea).

I'm bookmarking this though.  I'm eventually going to install an upgraded drive (I got the biggest available/offered by HP for my Omen) and this will be helpful.

I don't think I've been thankful enough here for your efforts, so I want to be explicitly clear how much I appreciate it.  I thought I was tenacious about it, and you have been even more so.  For that, thanks again.

I'll follow up here with new news if anything happens (ie., if an unrelated app update fixes the issue on its own). Cheers.
