OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wf0000 (755G1AV)

Dear Community,

Dear HP-Team,

I have the problem that my laptop (HP Omen Gaming Laptop 16-wf0000 (755G1AV) does not turn on when I press the power button (no fan spinning, no lights, the power button does not turn on either).

It has occured just at rare intervalls but was occuring more often recently.

Now, the laptop is almost not turning on at all anymore (only with a strange workaround).

When it turns on, the keyboard and display just turn off after a few minutes (but fan works, so the laptop is still "alive").

What I have checked in detail:

  • Check the power adapter: The power adapter is working and multimeter brings correct voltage. Pin inside the power jack is not damaged/bent. When I plugin the power adapter to the laptop, a small white light indicates that the power adapter has been plugged in.
  • Remove peripherals: I have disconnected all external devices, including USB drives, external monitors, and any other peripherals.
  • Inspect for physical damage: there is no sign of physical damage, such as cracks, dents, or loose connections. The battery looks good as well.
  • Try a hard reset: I disconnected the laptop from power (disassembled the power adapter as well and unplugged it from the wall, removed the battery (I opened the laptop and unplugged the battery from the mainboard). Then I held down the power button for 45 seconds to drain any residual power. I tried with and without plugging back in the battery.
  • Check for overheating: Same behavior when the laptop did not run for a day. So no overheating.

The only way to turn the laptop on is with unplugged battery. For this, I need to hold the power button meanwhilst I plug in the power jack. Then it turns on. When first pluggin in the power jack and press the power button afterwards, it just stays dead.

I think that there is some serious hardware issue which I can not handle for myself.

Please revert back with any idea what else I could check.

Thank you very much in advance.
