OMEN by HP - 15-ce198wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This past week my computer has been suffering through a series of debilitating crashes-as many as two to four each hour. Checking in reliability monitor, I see that "Solutionfinder.exe" is perhaps the culprit, as the crashes of Solutionfinder.exe are synchronized with the crashes of my computer. Looking online, I have been unable to find any real information on what solutionfinder is and why it should cause my computer to crash. Often when crashing, my computer will have a buzzing noise which fills the room, or a high pitched whine. Many times the screen freezes up, and simply doesn't allow me to do anything at all.

Every single one of these freezes are solved by holding the power button and simply powering down the computer. There is no other fix in this situation. As you might imagine, this is fairly frustrating.  As far as I can tell, I have updated all drivers, don't have any malware/virus, and have updated windows to the latest version. The problems appears to be isolated to 'Solutionfinder.exe.'

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @joe822

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Try these steps -

1) Select Start, and in the search box, enter Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select Run as administrator.
2) Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the spaces before each "/").
3) Enter sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/")

Scan for viruses and malware.

Also, try updating the computer using these steps -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

You may also refer to this document for further steps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your reply. I have used 3rd party virus/malware scanners, which haven't been able to detect any malware. It appears to me that hp support assistant is part of the issue, because Solutionfinder.exe is located within the HP support assistant. After uninstalling the hp support assistant, the problem continued to persist. I've been on top of windows updates for 8 months now. This problem has persisted from the moment I purchased this computer, and I suspect will continue to persist for quite some time. Is it possible that it is a hardware issue?

Hi @joe822

Thanks for trying. I'd suggest you back-up the data and try re-installing the operating system -

1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F11 once for System Recovery.
4) Choose the Keyboard Layout.
5) Click on Troubleshoot.
6) Go to Recovery Manager and click on System Recovery.
Note : Back-up all your data as System Recovery will delete everything that you had saved or installed on the computer.

Let me know.

i too have  sulutionfinder.exe crashes and i think HPSA version 9  ( the windows store version) is the culprit .

@Lunario

Have you tried re-installing the HP Support Assistant? If you have not, try these steps -

1) In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".

2) Look for HP Support Assistant.

3) Right click to uninstall.

4) Restart the computer.

5) Install the HP Support Assistant from this link.

@Asmita that softpaq is the the same that i had on my product page  dc0032np and doesn't work like i said on another thread.

setup give install error 183.

to be able to install version 9x  i have  2 options  to install 8.7.50.3 then check for update ( it will go to windows store and download the 9x version or open the 9x folder on the sp95226 and click on the appxbundle there,

i have uninstalled both hp support assistant and hp framework and then i installed the 9x version directly through the appxbundle.exe and the difference is  that version does not install the HP framework that probably is the culprit of that error because no more hpsa  application error on event viewer.

Anyway that  sofpaq has installation issues because of that 183 error

so for me the solution  for the 9x HPSA version is

1 . uninstall HPSA,

uninstall HP framework

extract Softpaq 9526.exe

go to 9x folder there and install apxbundle. ( windows store will update it to version 9.5)

HPSA 9x  apparently is working here with no more error because he doesn´t install the HP support framework

Has anybody solved this problem? Solutionfinder is failing 10-12 times  every day on my 1 week old HP. Reliability monitor picks this up, although no actual crash or hang-up occurs. HP needs to fix this problem or show us how to disable Solutionfinder.exe. What is it's purpose anyway?
