Issue Description: I'm encountering a persistent issue with my HP Pavilion Gaming 15 (dk0056wm). The laptop charges perfectly fine when it's shut down or in sleep/hibernation mode. However, when I boot into Windows, it charges up to the login screen but then begins repeatedly connecting and disconnecting once logged in.
Observations:
- The charging only gets interrupted when I'm using Windows (both Windows 10 and 11 have been tested).
- No issues when in shutdown or sleep mode—charging is uninterrupted.
- When the battery drops a few percent during normal use, the charging problem starts, with the charger connecting and disconnecting frequently.
Remedies I’ve Tried So Far:
Updated Windows and BIOS:
- Windows 11 and BIOS are fully updated.
- Issue persists even after the updates.
Switched to Windows 10:
- Same charging issue persists, so it doesn’t seem to be OS-specific.
Checked Power Settings:
- I reviewed power settings and ensured there were no options set to limit charging or manage charging behaviour based on system load.
- I've tried balanced and high-performance modes with no change.
Safe Mode Test:
- Booted into Safe Mode, but couldn’t test thoroughly due to a PIN issue. Resolved that, but the charging behaviour remains unchanged.
Reinstalled Windows:
- I completely reinstalled Windows 11, but the problem persists.
Checked for Hardware Settings in BIOS:
- I looked for any battery-related settings in the BIOS, but there was no relevant option for managing battery charging behaviour.
Battery Calibration:
- Fully charged the battery, drained it, and then recharged it to 100% to recalibrate, but it didn’t solve the issue.
Tested During Low Power and High Power Usage:
- During low power consumption tasks, the problem occurs. I also monitored for any thermal throttling, but the issue isn’t linked to overheating based on temperature readings.
Remaining Questions:
- Why does the charging interruption only happen when Windows is running?
- Could it be related to some driver or power management issue that only surfaces during normal usage?
- Is there any third-party tool or driver that I could try to fix this?
Hardware Note:
- My current adapter meets the wattage requirement for the laptop.
- No visible damage to the charging port or cable.
Any suggestions or recommendations to further diagnose or fix this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've done a thorough job troubleshooting the charging issue with your HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk0068wm. Based on your detailed observations and tests, it seems that this might be related to software or driver issues that only manifest while the system is running Windows. Here are some further steps and suggestions to help diagnose and resolve the issue:
1. Update/Reset the ACPI Battery Drivers
The issue could be related to the ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) drivers, which manage power and battery-related functions. To reset or update the drivers:
- Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting Device Manager.
- Expand the "Batteries" section.
- Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall Device.
- Once uninstalled, restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver upon reboot.
- Alternatively, you can try updating this driver from the Driver tab if an update is available.
2. Check for HP Battery Management Software
- Some HP laptops have HP Battery Manager or HP Support Assistant, which can help manage battery charging and health. If it's installed, check if there are any power management settings or options related to charging behavior (e.g., battery health management, maximum charge threshold).
- Reinstall HP Support Assistant (or uninstall if you're using it and test without it) to see if that resolves the issue.
3. Try Disabling USB Selective Suspend
Sometimes, Windows power management settings interfere with charging. Disabling USB Selective Suspend might help:
- Open Control Panel > Power Options.
- Click on Change Plan Settings next to your current power plan.
- Click Change advanced power settings.
- Expand USB settings and USB selective suspend setting.
- Set it to Disabled for both on battery and plugged in.
- Click Apply and OK.
4. Update or Rollback the Chipset Driver
There could be an issue with the chipset driver that manages power delivery to the USB-C or charging port. Try the following:
- Update your chipset driver: Go to HP’s support page for your laptop model and download the latest chipset driver for Windows 11.
- Rollback the driver: If this issue started after updating your chipset or USB drivers, try rolling back the driver to a previous version in Device Manager. Right-click the device, select Properties, go to the Driver tab, and click Roll Back Driver (if available).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Sneha_01,
Thank you for your detailed response and for providing further suggestions. Here's what I've tried based on your advice, along with the results:
ACPI Battery Drivers:
I uninstalled the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery from Device Manager and restarted my laptop. The driver was reinstalled automatically, but unfortunately, the charging issue persisted. There was no change in behaviour.
HP Battery Management Software:
I was unable to find any HP Battery Management Software or specific power management settings on my laptop. I reinstalled HP Support Assistant, but it did not contain any options for battery health management or charging thresholds. After uninstalling it entirely, the issue persisted with no changes.
USB Selective Suspend:
I disabled USB Selective Suspend under Power Options as instructed, but this didn’t make a difference in the charging issue. The charger still connects and disconnects repeatedly once logged into Windows.
Chipset Driver:
I updated the chipset drivers and checked for any available updates from HP’s support page. I even tried rolling back the chipset drivers, but no improvement was observed. The issue remained unchanged.
Given that the problem does not occur when the laptop is powered off, in sleep mode, or in hibernation, I suspect this may be linked to software, drivers, or Windows power management functions that activate during normal use. The only time the charging works perfectly is during shutdown or sleep mode.
Do you have any other recommendations or steps I could try to further diagnose or resolve this issue?
Thank you for your continued support!
Best regards,
Hunain Zaidi
