HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec0104ax
Microsoft Windows 11

I bought this HP Pavilion gaming laptop about a year ago. At first there were no issues while I was playing games for the first few months. After about 3 months, I first noticed the issue when I was playing Far cry 3. The laptop stopped charging when gaming and it only started charging when I switched off the power and turned it back on. During these times it would randomly occur, usually when I play games which require more performance. But after 6-7 months this issue started to occur more frequently even for games with lesser performance. I contacted the HP support, they asked me to calibrate the battery and reinstall the battery drivers and check. I did the same but it did not fix the issue. Has someone else also faced this issue? Its quite annoying as laptop is a gaming laptop and still I cant play games in it properly !!!

All the windows updates and Driver updates are done but still the issue persists.

NOTE-

One strange thing I noticed is when this issue occurs, if I unplug the charger from the laptop and connect it back. It doesn't resume charging. But if I power off the main switch and switch it back on, it resumes charging. So can this be an issue with the charging adaptor? I'm also not sure.

Plus have you also gone through the below Note which I had posted in my original query? Do you think it could be a power adaptor issue because of the below observation?

Please downgrade to Windows 10, if you contact HP you will not get support for Windows 11.

Charger:

Stability problems with a charger can only be checked/detected with an oscilloscope, it does not work with a multimeter. There is only one test: Ask at an HP service center if they have an identical charger in stock to do a test.

Such an action should cost nothing, just a wink.

Hi,

I followed your steps from (1) till (4) and the issue is still not resolved.
The laptop stopped charging as soon as I started playing the game.

Before I downgrade to windows 10 I just wanted to inform you that the issue was still there when my laptop had Windows 10 installed. This issue did not come because I upgraded to Windows 11.

So do you still want be to go ahead with the downgrade?

Plus have you also gone through the below Note which I had posted in my original query? Do you think it could be a power adaptor issue because of the below observation?

Please let me know your suggestion soon and I'll keep posting my results !!!

Thanks

Hi,

I went to the service center and we tested gaming with 135W power adapter and with another 150 W power adapter (mine is 150W adapter which I got with the laptop).
The Laptop was charging without any issue for the 2 power adapters (gamed for around 20-30 mins continuously) and when we tested again with my old adapter, charging stopped either immediately or after 3-5 mins. We tested by interchanging the adapters one after the other and it seems the issue only occurs when my old adapter is used. So we concluded that the issue is with my old adapter.

So I bought a new adapter and will be playing games by charging with it.

Will let you know the results after using it for 1 week.

Thanks

Have been gaming for 2-3 weeks and no problems are observed. So we can conclude that the problem was with the charger. So this issue is resolved. Thanks for the support and you can close the ticket.
