Hi, I have a HP Pavillion eg-00040na and would like to upgrade the storage from 512GB to 1TB.
It seems the installed KIOXIA M.2 SSD drive uses PCIe 3.0, but there are now several PCIe 4.0 drives available on the market which claim increased data transfer speeds over version 3.0. However, I'm not sure if the HP motherboard supports this and thus whether I will get the benefits, or whether I should just buy a probably cheaper PCIe 3.0 drive.
Thanks for your help.

Hi:
Your notebook's M.2 slot is PCIe Gen 3.
While a PCIe Gen 4 SSD would work, it will only run at a max speed of 3,500 MBPS in a Gen 3 slot.
Since notebook processors are integral parts of the motherboard, you can look up the PCIe version on the Intel website for the connectivity specifications.
Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 Processor
The processor is Gen 4 but the chipset is Gen 3.
