HI, I'm having problems with my HP Victus 15 fb2000 laptop that when l want it to shut down it doesn't and proceeds to boot up again after a few seconds. l just either put it into sleep mode or forcing it to shutdown by holding the power button

Hi @Jand-,

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

It sounds like you're experiencing a common issue where the laptop immediately restarts itself instead of shutting down. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to address the issue:

Check Power Settings:

  1. Navigate to the Control Panel.
  2. Go to Hardware and Sound and then Power Options.
  3. Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
  4. Ensure that the setting for "When I press the power button" is set to Shut down for both "On battery" and "Plugged in".

Disable Fast Startup:

Fast Startup can sometimes cause issues with shutting down completely.

  1. Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
  2. Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
  3. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable at the top.
  4. Scroll down and uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended).
  5. Click Save changes.

Update Drivers:

Ensure that all drivers, especially for the chipset and display, are up to date.

  • Visit HP Support to download and install the latest drivers for your laptop model.

Check for Windows Updates:

Make sure your operating system is fully updated.

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security.
  2. Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.

BIOS Update:

Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve hardware-related issues.

  1. Check the version of your current BIOS by typing msinfo32 in the search bar and pressing Enter.
  2. Compare it with the version available on the HP Support site. If a newer version is available, follow the instructions to update your BIOS.

Scan for Malware:

In some cases, unwanted software can interfere with the shutdown process.

  • Use a reliable antivirus program to perform a full system scan.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved, and if you feel this reply was helpful, click “Yes”.
