- HP Victus Battery Drains Extremely Fast and Sudden Shutdowns

I purchased my HP Victus laptop in November 2024. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been facing serious battery issues that are affecting basic usability.
The battery drains very quickly — I lose around 1 percent every 5 seconds, even when the laptop is idle. In some cases, the laptop shuts down suddenly when the battery level is still showing 60 to 70 percent.
After the sudden shutdown, the laptop only turns back on when it is plugged in. Once it boots, the battery percentage shows 1 percent. Within just a few minutes of charging, it jumps straight to 100 percent, which seems very inaccurate.
I generated a battery report. It shows that the design capacity is 53,000 mWh, but the full charge capacity has dropped to 46,000 mWh. The report also shows 250 charge cycles. This seems like abnormal degradation for a laptop that’s less than a year old.
Here’s what I’ve already tried:
Calibrated the battery manually
Updated BIOS and drivers using HP Support Assistant
Set the power plan to Power Saver
Disabled background apps and unnecessary startup programs
Unfortunately, none of these steps have fixed the issue. The rapid battery drain and sudden shutdowns are still happening.
I would appreciate help understanding whether this is a hardware-level issue — possibly with the battery or power management system — and whether I’m eligible for a battery replacement under warranty.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can guide me.

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Experiencing rapid battery drain and unexpected shutdowns can be frustrating. Here are some steps to help diagnose and potentially resolve these battery issues on your HP Victus laptop:
Battery Health Check: Use HP's built-in diagnostic tools to check the health of your battery. You can run HP Battery Check through the HP Support Assistant. This tool can highlight battery performance issues and suggest necessary actions.
Update Drivers and BIOS: Ensure that all your drivers and BIOS are up to date. These updates can sometimes resolve power management issues. Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest updates for your model.
Power Settings: Adjust power settings to ensure your laptop is optimized for battery use:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
- Adjust settings to favor battery saving, such as reducing screen brightness and limiting background applications.
Background Applications: Check for any applications running in the background that may be consuming excessive power:
- Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Look for applications that have high CPU or memory usage and close unnecessary ones.
Battery Calibration: Try calibrating the laptop battery to reset the battery gauge:
- Charge the battery to 100%, then unplug and let it drain completely until it shuts down, then charge again to 100%.
Check Battery Condition: Physically inspect the battery area for any signs of damage or wear. If your laptop is still under warranty, consider contacting HP Support for potential battery replacement.
Contact HP Support: If the problem persists, contacting HP phone support for further assistance or exploring warranty options might be necessary.
Addressing these issues should help improve battery performance and resolve sudden shutdowns. If the battery's physical condition or internal software issues are beyond simple troubleshooting, HP Phone Support can assist with replacements or repairs.
