I have an HP Victus Gaming Laptop, and I recently performed a motherboard transplant from another hp victus model and have been experiencing issues since.
1. The laptop boots when the battery is disconnected and it is plugged into the wall directly.
2. The laptop does not boot, does not respond to input, and nothing happens when the power button is pressed if the battery is installed.
3. If the laptop is booted then the battery is plugged in, it immediately shows a black screen with the lcd panel on for a minute before everything shuts off. Cannot have the computer running while connected to battery at all so diagnostics are impossible.
4. When the laptop is plugged into the wall it shows a green light by the plug. When the battery is plugged in, it shows an orange light as if it was charging, but never charges or responds even after letting it sit for hours.
Base knowledge:
** Motherboard replacement cannot be reverted, the old motherboard is toast (broken parts, chipped off capacitors, barely boots with occasional moments of clarity)
** The motherboard replacement, although it came from the laptop model I had, supports a different cpu and GPU, as well as different ram sockets. The switches were from I believe rtx 2070 to rtx 2050, and from an Intel i5 to an AMD Ryzen 5.
** Many many issues came with the AMD processor, but the main one is the battery. If that gets fixed the rest will come later with new bios, drivers, fresh install of windows etc.
** It may be that the motherboard requires a different voltage but I cannot find any listings online, and do not know if it is possible to check motherboard stats in windows.
What I have tried:
Contacting HP Support - They told me to buy the exact same battery and when I asked if I could search for the battery of the motherboard model (because it could be different voltage for different motherboards) the call guy stopped me, told me he can't help me, and to buy a new computer. (????)
Plugging into battery after it boots - Black screen, no dice.
Doing all manner of windows repair from disabling bitlocker, running sfc scanner, running repairs, diagnostics testing of the board - all turned up normal.

Hi @lumps17,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you've encountered a complex hardware compatibility issue due to the motherboard transplant, particularly with the power management circuitry and battery compatibility.
Here are some steps and considerations that might help resolve the issue:
Steps to Diagnose and Resolve the Issue
Check Battery Compatibility:
- Confirm the battery model and specifications (voltage, amperage, and wattage) required for the new motherboard. The new motherboard might require a different battery or power configuration.
- Try to find the exact battery model that is compatible with the new motherboard.
BIOS and Firmware Update: Software and Drivers for Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fa0035no
- Ensure the BIOS on the new motherboard is up to date. Sometimes, newer BIOS versions include fixes for power management and battery recognition issues.
- Check the HP website for the latest BIOS update and detailed instructions on how to update it.
Reset CMOS/BIOS Settings:
- Perform a BIOS reset to default settings. This can help resolve issues related to power management configurations.
- To reset the BIOS, you can usually find an option in the BIOS setup menu, or you might need to disconnect the CMOS battery for a few minutes.
Power Management Settings:
- In the BIOS, look for power management settings and ensure they are configured correctly for the new hardware.
- Check settings related to battery charging and power source switching.
Battery Calibration:
- If the battery is recognized but not charging properly, try calibrating the battery. This can sometimes help the system correctly gauge the battery's state.
- Fully discharge the battery until the laptop turns off, then charge it fully without interruptions.
Check for Hardware Faults:
- Inspect the battery connector and related circuitry on the motherboard for any visible damage or loose connections.
- Ensure that the battery connector on the new motherboard is not damaged and is properly seated.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

In order to comply with your first suggestion, I must know the current Motherboard's compatibility, and what voltage/ wattage it requires, which I am unable to find on the websites, and which the HP Support agent I called said they couldn't help me with. Is there any way you could point me towards where I could find if my motherboard and Battery are compatible or if I will need to get a compatible battery?
My motherboard's specs:
BaseBoard Manufacturer HP
BaseBoard Product 8C30
BaseBoard Version 88.14
My battery specs:
15.4V =...= 70.07Wh
Product Number: 68Y11UA
Description: Victus by HP Gaming Laptop

Hello again,
After searching this guide I have found it doesn't match either the name or specs of the model of computer I have. It specifies it has intel cores and geforce rtx 3050 and 1650 as the dependent gpus based on the battery, but the laptop I have has an AMD Ryzen 5 cpu and a geforce RTX 2050.
This maintenance and service guide belongs to a model 15-fa0xxx HP Victus laptop, but the one I am using is model 15-fb1xxx, of completely different specs. My problem is that this specific model, though I can find it for sale on hp's website, has no maintenance or service guide that is connected to it, meaning I am shooting in the dark what battery product I am looking for.
Thank you for your help so far, I feel I am at the cusp of solving all these problems, as I have fixed everything about the laptop except for this darn battery. If you could assist any further I would appreciate all the help I can get.

Additional note if this is confusing, the donor computer I got the motherboard from was an 15-fb1xxx model of HP Victus, with the exact reading in the system information panel being:
"System Model Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fb1xxx"
The previous laptop that I bought was an HP Victus 15-fa0xxx, which has both different gpu and cpu, meaning likely different specs on the battery (with the lower end battery being 3cells and 50wh, but the higher end one being 4 cells and 70wh).

I require a different Maintenance and Service Guide for the model 15-fb1xxx, with the notes that all service guides I have found do not match the most basic components such as the gpu being a RTX 2050 , and the cpu being an AMD Ryzen 7535hs. The guide you gave me does not contain those properties and thus the battery will be different.
I have spoken with HP Support line and they have once again hung up on me without helping anything, like they aren't even there to help at all. I am very close to a solution, so all the help I can get would be nice. I just need to buy the proper battery from the hp parts store, but I can't identify it.
Thank you again for your help. Waiting for a reply from several sources right now.
