Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I'm asking you about the following problem.

After performing a firmware update for multiple devices using HP Support Assistant, the camera no longer works.
The specific error is unusual: The camera appears in Device Manager, but when using an application that accesses the camera (Firefox, Camera for Windows, etc.), the camera disappears from the device list.

The most suspicious thing is that when I restart the computer, the camera is no longer visible in Windows.
BUT if I restart, enter the BIOS, press F10 to save and exit (without modifying anything), when I enter Windows, the camera is visible again, but when I use any application, it "disconnects" from the Device Manager.
In Camera for windows it gives the error: 0xA00F4244 NoCameraAreAttached

I initially thought it might be a compatibility issue, as I installed Windows 11 LTSC a few months ago and the camera worked fine before the firmware update.
To rule out OS issues, perform the following tests.

1)Check the camera's security options
-The error persists.

2)Uninstall the driver from Device Manager and restart.

-The error persists.

3)Connect a generic USB camera to rule out USB failure= The generic camera works correctly.
-The error persists.

4)Repair system:
sfc /scannow

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

-The error persists.

5)Restore Windows:
-The error persists.

6)Download a new Windows 11 PRO ISO and perform a clean install.
Check the camera's security options

-The error persists.

I look forward to your comments.

Thank you very much for your time.

Best regards.

Hi @Dovahloper

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for the incredibly thorough breakdown—you’ve clearly done a meticulous job isolating the issue, and I sincerely appreciate the time and effort you’ve invested. I’m really sorry the firmware update has led to such a frustrating experience with your HP Wide Vision HD Camera.

Here's a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to address this problem:

Restart the Computer:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve detection issues with hardware components.

Check the Webcam Privacy Settings:

  • Locate the webcam privacy switch on the side of your laptop and ensure it is turned on.
  • Alternatively, use the webcam shutter key located on the action key row of your keyboard to turn on the webcam.

Verify App Access to the Webcam:

  • For Windows 11:
    1. Right-click the Start button, and click Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
    2. Ensure Camera access is set to On.
    3. Under Let apps access your camera, select On for the apps you want to have access to the webcam.
  • For Windows 10:
    1. From the Start menu, click Settings > Privacy > Camera.
    2. Set Allow apps to access your camera to On.
    3. Under Choose which apps can access your camera, toggle your preferred settings to On.

Uninstall and Reinstall C‍amera Driver:

  • In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
  • Right-click your camera under Imaging devices, and select Uninstall Device.
  • Select the Delete the driver software for this device check box, and click Uninstall.
  • After uninstalling, click Action > Scan for hardware changes in Device Manager to automatically reinstall the driver.
  • Restart your computer.

Update the Computer Using Windows Update:

  • In Windows, search for and open Check for updates.
  • Download and install any available updates.

Switch to UVC Driver:

  • The UVC (USB Video Class) driver might resolve compatibility issues:
    1. Sign in as an administrator.
    2. Search for and open Device Manager.
    3. Right-click your camera, and select Update driver.
    4. Select Browse my computer for drivers.
    5. Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
    6. Select USB Video Device, and click Next to complete the update.
    7. Close Device Manager and restart the computer.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi, unfortunately, it doesn't work for now.

1)Uninstalling the driver and restarting didn't work.

2)I checked the list of available drivers and only see "USB Video Device", as well as the permissions list.

Windows 11 doesn't give me the option to remove the driver when uninstalling.
Windows doesn't update it either, it's already using the latest version.

3)Check the files reported by Device Manager, but I can't delete them even through the console(Admin). I deduce that they must be in use by the system.

4)Check that Windows has no pending or optional updates. Also, check the same in HP Support Assistant.

I am attaching a very short video (7 seconds) that I made so that you can see how the camera disappears in real time from the list of devices when you open the Windows camera application (or any other application that tries to access the camera).

I look forward to your comments.

Thanks for sharing such a detailed breakdown—it’s clear you’ve been incredibly thorough, and I completely understand how frustrating this must be, especially after a firmware update that was supposed to improve things.

Based on everything you’ve tried and the behavior you described (camera disappearing from Device Manager when accessed), this points to a deeper firmware or driver-level conflict.

Hello again, I apologize for the delay in responding.

I spent several days running more tests.
A few days ago, a client brought me an old netbook for repair.
During the repair, while updating it to Windows 10, something strange happened...
Everything was working, but the camera started doing the same thing as on my laptop after updating Windows.

This gave me a new clue. The only "change" was updating Windows. By manually checking the applied updates, I found that KB5060533 broke the camera.

I rolled back the update and the camera started working again.

With that new clue, I investigated the possibility that the same thing could be happening on my Victus.

Investigating my case, I deduced that the firmware update could occur simultaneously with a Windows update, and as a result, I can't be sure which of the two breaks it.

I found that perhaps the 24h2 update broke eSCL compatibility.

Unfortunately, I wasn't as lucky.

I couldn't go back to the version I had installed, as it was a native 24H2 and wouldn't let me apply the 07-2025 update and its fixes.
However, I still tried performing clean installs of different versions to rule out issues from an update:

W11 LTSC 24H2
W11 Pro 24H2
W11 Home 24H2 with 07-2025 update
W11 Pro 23H2
W10 LTSC 21H2
CachyOS (Arch)

Without exception, the behavior is the same in all cases. The camera stops being detected by the system if I try to use it and isn't visible again until I enter the BIOS.
