Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-s0000 (76T56AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I’m experiencing persistent screen flickering on my HP Victus laptop. After researching similar cases, I found that this issue is commonly linked to a faulty HALL sensor in HP gaming laptops. In my case, the sensor appears to be malfunctioning, likely due to its placement near the heat elements.

To keep the laptop usable, I temporarily disconnected the HALL sensor, but this immediately reduced performance by approximately 50%, which confirms the sensor is the source of the problem.

The device is currently out of warranty, but since this appears to be a design-related issue affecting multiple Victus models, I do not agree with covering the repair cost out of pocket. I would like to know how HP intends to resolve this situation and whether a service exception can be provided.

Thank you,

Greg

Hi  @greg576

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand you've done quite a bit of troubleshooting already and appreciate the information you've provided regarding the HALL sensor behaviour on your Victus laptop.

To help us better understand the situation, could you kindly share the following details:

  • When did the screen flickering first begin?
  • Does the flickering occur only while gaming, or during normal desktop use as well?
  • Does the issue appear on an external monitor if one is connected?

In the meantime, kindly try the following checks and confirm :

  1. Update the BIOS to the latest version available for your model from the HP Support website https://support.hp.com/ .
  2. Update both the integrated and dedicated graphics drivers using HP Support Assistant or the HP support page for your device.
  3. Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics: Click here for steps
    • Turn off the notebook.
    • Turn it on and repeatedly tap F2.
    • Run the Component Tests for the display and system board.
  4. Test the laptop with an external monitor to determine whether the behavior is isolated to the internal display.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
