HP Pavilion - 15-cc023cl

My hp pavilion 15cc0xx shows Hard drive short dst check:failed. Failure code : RSJLHV-8PAC2B-MFPURG-60W403

I saw that hp doesn’t publish the failure code reading because of privacy issues.  I hope someone from  hp can help me to understand the above failure code (without posting the serial number here). Thank you!

You're very welcome.

If you want to replace the drive, I recommend you replace the 1 TB 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD) such as this one.

After you replace the drive, use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC on the new SSD.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.

Since you have to use the utility on another PC, you will need to enter your notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.

Thank you!

The laptop was stuck in bootloop after the hp logo comes up, and then disappears. But yesterday,  after I did the hard drive check and the failurecode was displayed, the laptop, after a little while,  showed the message  - windows is updating, do not shutdown the laptop,. Then it proceeded to show % of update. After that,  it was just frozen screen. I was surprised to see the windows update message.  Does this mean something like reseating the hard-drive will fix the hard drive failure? This could be a stupid question but I am curious.

You're very welcome.

I doubt that reseating the drive will fix the problem but if you want to try that, I don't suppose that you have nothing to lose.

If it doesn't work, try the cloud recovery drive you make with the cloud recovery tool, and see if you can reinstall W10 on the drive anyway.

If that doesn't work, you will have to install a new drive and then use the USB recovery to reinstall W10.

I replaced the hard drive of my HP Pavilion 15 with the same kind (mechanical drive, didn't upgrade). I made the bootable USB stick. I plugged it into the HP, turned on the laptop, and pressed Esc to get to the start-up menu, but the start up menu didn't come. Instead, HP recovery manager started (this must be fine, I think, because it means the laptop recognized the USB). After two hours, it showed—recovery failed.

I am posting the first page of the  'log details' window. Please see the error at the bottom left. This is only the first page of the error log. There are more pages. If they need to be posted, please lmk.

Thank you!

Pl help!

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with any cloud recovery tool failure issues.

Your other option is to clean install W10 by making a bootable USB installation flash drive with the Media creation tool from the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Boot from the installation media, install W10 and after W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
