Hello, I have a HP omen 17 inch laptop. Recently, the fan speed had spiked to a higher baseline. CPU temp is barely above 40 degrees. Fan speed checked at start up screen (bios) is 60 to 75%. There was a solution to adjust the fan speed curve on omen gaming hub, but I cant find this in the version that I have on my laptop. Help please.

@shenshen,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

It sounds like the fan speed issue could be related to either software settings or hardware, such as dust buildup. Here's how you can troubleshoot this:

  1. Check for Dust: Dust buildup can cause the fan to run at higher speeds to compensate for blocked airflow. I would recommend checking your laptop's cooling vents and cleaning the fan if necessary, using compressed ("canned') air or a soft brush.

  2. Update HP Omen Gaming Hub: If you can't find the fan speed curve adjustment option in your version of the Omen Gaming Hub, ensure that the software is up to date. HP frequently updates their software to add features or improve functionality. Updating might provide the option to control the fan speed curve.

  3. HP Command Center Settings: Sometimes, Omen laptops use the HP Command Center instead of the Omen Gaming Hub. You should check if the fan controls are available there, as it offers performance modes that can adjust fan speed based on the workload.

  4. BIOS Update: A BIOS update may also resolve issues related to fan behavior, as manufacturers often release updates to improve thermal management. You should check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop on HP's support website.

  5. Windows Power Settings: It's also worth checking if the power plan settings in Windows are affecting fan behavior. Setting the laptop to "Balanced" or "Power Saver" may help regulate the fan speed, while the "High Performance" plan could cause higher fan speeds.

If these steps don't resolve your issue, you may want to reach out to HP-UK Support for further assistance.

Hello Nonsequitur, thank you. I reinstalled omen gaming hub from microsoft store. It is the same version that I had before, and cant find any specific way to control the fan speed. The Eco, comfort, default and performance modes are available as before with the only options being auto and max.

@shenshen,

You continue to have the same issue?

Yes, I still do. I also tried something else- went into BIOS setup and turned the "fan- always on" option to off. This reduced the fan speed and noise, but the steady state cpu temp was 45 to 50degrees. After a couple of days, i turned it back to always on and now temp is down to 35 to 40degrees, but fan speed is higher- baseline at 65% of full speed.
