Hello, I recently bought an Omen 15-ce005la gaming laptop, I've used it for developing games in Unity and playing some games (not too demanding games), I use it with the battery energy and as expected it drains after some time, however when I plug the charger and keep using it while charging the battery the laptop starts doing a noise, the worse part is that when Im playing a game or testing a game in Unity while charging the battery the laptop starts heating and sometimes it closes the game or unity, and one time the laptop was so hot that it turned off, after that the battery isn't lasting as before, even if I use it only to watch videos or listening to music it lasts 3 hours max when it lasted at least 5 hours before.
My question is if there is a special way to use the laptop only with the AC? Because I usually use it only in my home.
Is there special configuration to handle the heat when I use it for games or unity?
And is it ok to use the laptop (playing games or just watching videos) while the battery is charging? Because this is when the laptop overheats and closes all applications or in the worst case it turns itself off.
Thanks in advance, I appreciate any information regarding my questions, I really love this laptop and I really want to take good care of it.

Batteries and hargers are now smarter than you thought. They will stop charging when batteries get full charge and you use AC directly.
Regards.

The laptop should not be overheating just becuause the battery charger is plugged in.
What are your Tempuratures when it shuts off?
Run HWMonitor during gaming or benchmarking and tell me what the CPU Temps are.. average, min and max.
https://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.35.zip
If your cpu is overheating, it will shut the laptop down for safety.
Some of the Omens have this issue. But did yours alway do this, of did it start after a recent Windows 1803 update?
Type Winver in the Cortana Search bar to brind up the verion info.
Also, run the uefi diagnostics tool before windows opens and run the Extensive tests for everything.
F2 at power on will access the screen.

Thanks for the answer, I did all the tests suggested and I post the results:
In UEFI diagnostics I ran and extensive check and everything was OK, then I ran tests for every component (especially the battery and the AC charger) and everything was OK, I saved the results of every test but I can't find the directory where they're stored, but according to the tool everything in my system and components is OK.
In the HWMonitor department I ran four tests, first I used the laptop only with the battery
Then I plugged the charger, waited a few minutes while using my laptop as I usually do and then took these temps
After that I started the Halo mod eldwrito and got into a 16 players match with the charger unpplugged, waited like 10 minutes and measured these temps
Next I plugged the charger, started another 16 players match and waited until the fans got very loud and the upper part of the keyboard felt ver very hot, similar conditions were shown when the laptop turned itself off, these are the temps
As the image shows the temperatures rise when I use the laptop while charging the battery and in demanding conditions the laptop almost overheats.
last is the version of the system: Windows 10 version 1709 (Compilation 16299.309), I haven't disable the updates at any moment and always allow the system to download and install the updates automatically, however there are two updates that don't work, KB4103727 and (KB4041994), I googled them and looks like many users have issues with those particular updates, I ran a Microsoft tool to reinstall the updates but those two didn't work at all, so I just ignored them but the system keeps telling me that I should restart so the updates can be applied, but even if I restart multiple times in a row those two updates won't work.
Thanks in advance for any future help.

Hi, this is and interesting question, I have the same issue, and i think is not normal, anyone can give an answer?
Let me do an example, if i play World of Warcraft without the charger active, the game run very good, low temperature, no fan noise. If I plug in the charger it start to boost the fan and overheating, to 70-80 c° HWMonitor say.
There is an option somewhere to avoid this?
The pc give all the power to the hardware and so it no look on what it need really?

I had not received a notice that Atencovaz had replied back. Sorry.
The reason the laptop runs so hot when plugged in, but not when gaming on battery only is because the system is getting full power while plugged in. When on battery only, the system throttles the cpu to conserve power and reduce heat.
All laptops will do this. You will probably notice a drop in the overall games fps when on battery only also.
Is there a way to overcome this while plugged in?
There is no setting to do this. What some users do instead is install a program like Intel's XTU or Throttlestop to undervolt the cpu. This reduces the power to the cpu and ultimately reduces the heat generated.
