Hello @Limiter586

Take the ram back out. Put only one stick into the first slot and run the laptop. If it works, try the other stick in the same slot.

Then if all the sticks work this way, take a stick and test the next slot. So you are testing each slot independantly.

If all the slots work, there shouldnt be a problem. IF there is, put the original stick back in and contact Crucial and explain what happend. They guarantee their ram to work.

So i did what you suggested and both slots work with the factory installed ram stick but neither of the crucial work

Would the OS prevent the computer from running more than 8gb?

HP Recommended

No its not Windows.

Your new ram wont work with your system for what ever reason. You will need to contact Crucial.

i was just thinking are there 260pin and 288 pin sodimm?

You mean 260 pin Sodimm laptop ram vs 288 pin Dimm desktop ram? Two physically different beasts. One wont fit into the other.

i was finally able to find the user upgrade manual for this laptop, heres a screenshot regarding the ram upgradability. could this be the problem? Is this something normal?Opera Snapshot_2018-12-13_221228_h10032.www1.hp.com.png

So contacted crucial they said it should work, but I might have to reset the cmos and need to contact hp to find out how. Contacted hp and 30 min later they said that the cmos cannot be reset. Really think you should be able to do **bleep** like that on a $1800 computer, and that their only suggestion would be to return the crucial ram and put hp 16gb ram in the computer at $550 per stick.
