HP Pavillion Gaming 15 Laptop

I recently checked and find out that my laptop's Nvidia GPU is not detecting and therefore I'm not getting suppossed performance while gaming or gpu dense tasks. I tried multilple solutions updating drivers etc but nothing worked for me. In device manager I frequently get error 43 on my Nvidia RTX 3050. I disable the device and enable it back to remove the error it but comes back everytime.

Looking for some help on this.

Hi @MuneebHabib,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue the graphics on your Laptop.

-Perform a power drain on your PC.

1) Unplug the power cord from the PC & wall.

2) Disconnect the power cable from the AC adapter if it is a detachable part and keep it aside.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the AC adapter, then connect it to the wall and to the charging port on your PC.

5) Power on the PC and check if it boots into Windows now.

-Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

-Install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

-If the issue still persists, please follow the below steps to further troubleshoot.

1. Update Graphics Drivers

Even though you mentioned trying updates, ensure you use the most recent drivers from Nvidia’s website rather than relying on automatic updates or third-party tools:

  • Go to the Nvidia Driver Downloads page.
  • Search for your specific GPU model and download the latest drivers.
  • Perform a clean installation by selecting the "Custom Installation" option and checking "Perform a clean installation."

2. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

Sometimes, GPU issues can be related to outdated BIOS or chipset drivers:

  • Visit the HP support website and look for the latest BIOS and chipset driver updates for your specific laptop model.
  • Follow the instructions to update these components carefully.

3. Check Power Settings

Ensure your laptop’s power settings are not limiting the performance of your GPU:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and make sure you’re using the “High Performance” plan.
  • In Nvidia Control Panel, go to Manage 3D settings and set Preferred graphics processor to “High-performance Nvidia processor.”

4. Reinstall Nvidia Drivers

A clean reinstall can sometimes fix underlying issues:

  • Uninstall the existing Nvidia drivers from Device Manager by right-clicking on the Nvidia GPU and selecting Uninstall device. Check the box to delete the driver software for this device.
  • Restart your laptop.
  • Install the latest drivers from Nvidia’s website again.

-Kindly refer to the steps on this link to perform system restore on your laptop and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Hi @Irwin6,

Thank you for your response. I’ve tried most of the troubleshooting steps you suggested, but unfortunately, they haven't resolved my GPU detection issue. When I attempted to check the serial number on the bottom of my laptop, I noticed blade marks, making it difficult to read the number accurately. Additionally, I used the HP Detect Software, but it was unable to detect my device.

I believe this might be related to a recent visit to a repair shop, where they updated my BIOS while addressing the GPU issue I mentioned earlier. Now, my laptop shows "InsydeH20 BIOS" next to the computer name, which I wasn’t expecting.

I’ve attached some screenshots for further clarity. Any guidance or next steps you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!
