i just bought a new Hp omen 15 laptop last week. my specs are ,i7 7700HQ, 4gb ddr4 2133mhz ram, GTX 1050 4gb, 1tb hhd. I noticed a lag in the movement of my mouse when softwares are being loaded; but not heavy softwares... just opening browsers, opening file explorer etc. Recently, the laptop would get stuck often for a few seconds while loading any software or file. I noticed my ram running at 75% while my cpu ran at a 100% for a light video editing. The power settings are at high performance and its plugged in. what could be the problem? 😞 please help

Hello @tsungchilong
It would help us a lot to also post the full model number of your Omen.
I couldn't pinpoint the exact cause of the slow performance. You are going to have to do some extensive troubleshooting.
A good starting point would be looking into the Task Manager>Processes to see what is taking up the resources.
CTRL/ALT/DEL to will access the Task Manager.
Also going into MSConfig and turning off unnecessary startups.
Example...

Running malware scans is also recommended when other methods are not working.
If your system only has 4 GB of memory, you would benefit a lot by upgrading to at least 8 GB or more, depending on what programs you run.
Depending on the actual video editing software, you can absolutely eat up ram and CPU, especially when rendering/finalizing. Corel Video Studio pro (for example) will utilize 100% CPU when doing this. So will several others.
Let me know if you have other questions.

OK, have you also tried viewing the various processes during use in the Task Manager?
That may tell you what is taking all your resources.
Also, does this happen at any time or only during certain programs?
Otherwise, you can run some hardware tests via the UEFI Componenet Tests to see if there are any issues.

Or the last alternative would be to reinstall Windows via the HP Recovery.
Tap F11 at power on to bring up the recovery and follow the prompts.
Make sure you have any data backed up onto another drive if needed.
Other thoughts...
As I mentioned earlier, you would also do well to increase your RAM.
An SSD drive would also speed things up, especially how fast Windows boots and programs load.
I cannot bring up the specs for your specific model, but you should be able to install an M.2 NVMe drive.
You would want to make sure you have your HP Recovery Media burned to a USB first.

So if its freezing after a reinstall, did you install any third party applications yet? If this was malware related, you could possibly re-introduced the culprit. In such case, you would need to run scans with Malwarebytes, Hitman pro, etc.
If not, AGAIN I say you need to look into the Task Manager to see whats taking up the resourses.
IF you find nothing, then I would run hardware tests with the HP Diagnostics Tools... https://support.hp.com/lt-en/document/c03467259
Ultimately, You can contact HP Support for Warranty issues if your PC is less than a year old. They can help you further than what I can on a forum.

I know this is an old post from last year but, I also got the exact same issue with my OMEN by HP 15-ce019na. Has this issue been fixed and how?
The lag I'm experiencing is also when I watch a video online or on windows media player or VLC as well opening browsers or file explorer.
I have posted this issue on another hp forum
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks

It still happens to me. I upgraded my ram from 4gb to 12 gb and im seeing a little improvement after. check out what's eating up your resources from the task manager. My disk goes up to a 100% from a process called service host. it could be a windows bug. Still not certain on what could be the cause for this lag.
