OMEN by HP - 17-an035ng

Hello.

I have a Hp Omen 17-an035ng with 250gb ssd

The question is I would like to change it for a new one of 500gb. I thought on:

Samsung 980 pro : https://www.samsung.com/nl/memory-storage/nvme-ssd/980-pro-pcle-4-0-nvme-m-2-ssd-500gb-mz-v8p500bw/?...

Is it compatible with my laptop? If not, which options I have? I would go for Samsung but if you think they're better suggestions please tell me.

The other question is: would my laptop support more than 500gb ssd? Could I also install 1tb?

Thanks

Hi:

In my opinion, Samsung makes excellent drives.

The 980 Pro is a PCie Gen 4.0 NVMe SSD and your notebook's M.2 slot is only PCIe Gen 3.0.

The 980 Pro will work fine but it will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from the Gen 3.0 SSD slot.

This table shows the maximum transfer speeds each PCIe slot generation can provide:

PCIe Speeds and Limitations | Crucial.com

You may want to look into the 1 TB 980 PCIe 3.0 which seems to cost less than the 500 GB 980 Pro.

Samsung 980 1 TB PCIe 3.0 (up to 3.500 MB/s) NVMe M.2 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (MZ-V8V1T0BW)...
