Hi @Chief68,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with logging into your computer after a recent update. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Check for Keyboard Issues

  • Make sure your keyboard is working properly. If you're using an external keyboard, try unplugging it and using the laptop's built-in keyboard, or vice versa.
  • If your keyboard isn’t responding at all, try connecting a different keyboard.

2. Boot into Safe Mode

Booting into Safe Mode can help you bypass some issues caused by recent updates or driver conflicts. Here’s how to do it:

Enter Recovery Mode:

  • Turn off your computer completely.
  • Turn it back on and as soon as you see the Windows logo, press and hold the power button to turn it off again. Repeat this process 2-3 times until you see the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen.
  • Let the automatic repair process run, then select "Advanced options" when you see the recovery screen.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • In the "Choose an option" screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  • After your PC restarts, you’ll see a list of options. Select 4 or press F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode.

Check if You Can Enter Your Code:

  • If you can log in while in Safe Mode, the issue might be with a recent update or driver.

3. Use the On-Screen Keyboard

If your keyboard isn’t working, you can use the on-screen keyboard to enter your password:

  1. On the login screen, click the Ease of Access icon (usually a clock or power icon) at the bottom right corner.
  2. Select On-Screen Keyboard from the menu that appears.
  3. Use the on-screen keyboard to enter your code.

4. Perform a System Restore

If logging in through Safe Mode works, or if you cannot log in at all, you can try performing a System Restore to revert to a point before the update:

  1. Enter Recovery Mode as described in Step 2.
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
  3. Follow the prompts to restore your system to a previous point in time.

5. Check for Windows Update Issues

Once logged in, check if there were any updates recently installed:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history.
  • If there was a problematic update, you might need to uninstall it.

6. Reset Your PC

If none of the above steps work, you might need to reset your PC. This should be your last resort, as it will remove all your apps and files (unless you choose the "Keep my files" option).

  1. Enter Recovery Mode again as described in Step 2.
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  3. Choose to Keep my files or Remove everything, depending on your preference.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
