I have 2 8GB DDR4 RAM in my laptop, but from last 1 week, it is showing only 1 RAM (SLOT : 1 OF 2). I don't know that my RAM is corrupted or it just lossen up, but it's not working now. (HP VICTUS RTX 4050 16 GB RAM WINDOWS 11)

Since your HP Victus laptop previously showed both 8GB DDR4 modules and now only detects one, the cause is likely either a loose seating or a failed module. 

 

Let’s walk through a safe and effective recovery process.

 

Step-by-step guide to restore full RAM detection

 

1. Power Down and Reseat the RAM Modules

Movement, heat, or vibration can cause a module to shift slightly.

  • Shut down your laptop completely and unplug all power sources.
  • Remove the bottom cover carefully using a precision screwdriver.
  • Locate both SODIMM slots.
  • Gently release both modules and reseat them firmly—ensure they click into place evenly.
  • Reinstall the cover and power on the laptop.

 

2. Check RAM Detection in BIOS

  • Restart and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Navigate to System Information.
  • Confirm whether both RAM modules are listed.
  • If only one appears, note which slot is active.

 

3. Swap Modules Between Slots

To isolate the issue:

  • Remove both modules.
  • Insert one module into Slot A, then boot and check detection.
  • Repeat with the same module in Slot B.
  • Do the same with the second module.

This helps determine whether the issue is with the slot or the module itself.

 

4. Run HP Diagnostics

  • Use the HP App to run a Memory Test.
  • Alternatively, press Esc > F2 at startup to launch HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run the Memory Test and note any errors.

 

5. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

Outdated firmware can misreport hardware status.

 

If one module consistently fails to be detected across both slots, it may be faulty. If both slots work with the other module, the issue is isolated to the RAM stick itself.
