Hi @wesamii,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re dealing with multiple issues after changing your SSD. Let’s address them step-by-step.

1. BIOS Update:

If you can't use HP Support Assistant or diagnostic tools, you can try updating the BIOS manually.

Download the BIOS Update:

  1. Visit the HP Support website.
  2. Enter your laptop's model number and navigate to the Drivers section.
  3. Look for the BIOS updates and download the latest version.

Create a Bootable USB:

  1. Format a USB drive (make sure to back up any data first).
  2. Copy the BIOS update file to the USB.
  3. Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS by pressing Esc or F10 (this varies by model).
  4. Look for the option to update the BIOS from the USB.

2. Check SSD Compatibility:

Make sure the SSD you installed is compatible with your laptop. Sometimes, certain SSDs require specific firmware or BIOS settings to function correctly.

3. Hyper-V and Sleep Settings:

If your laptop is going into hibernation during gaming, you may need to adjust your power settings.

  • Change Power Plan:
    1. Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
    2. Select Change plan settings next to your selected plan.
    3. Click on Change advanced power settings.
    4. Expand the Sleep settings and set Hibernate after to Never.

4. Cooling Solutions:

Since you mentioned overheating:

  • Clean the Fans: Dust buildup can significantly impact cooling. Use compressed air to blow out dust from the fans and vents.
  • Monitor Temperatures: Use software like HWMonitor or Core Temp to keep track of CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming. If they're still high, you may need additional cooling solutions.

5. Revisit Thermal Paste Application:

If you've reapplied thermal paste but the CPU still overheats, double-check:

  • Quality of the Paste: Ensure you used a high-quality thermal paste.
  • Even Application: Make sure the paste was applied evenly and not too thickly.

6. Reinstall HP Support Assistant:

If you can access the internet:

  • Go to the HP website and download the latest version of HP Support Assistant.
  • Try reinstalling it to see if it resolves any issues.

7. Check Event Viewer:

To diagnose the hibernation issue:

  • Press Windows + R, type eventvwr, and hit Enter.
  • Check Windows Logs > System for any warnings or errors around the time the laptop goes into hibernation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
