HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-dk0055nr
Microsoft Windows 11

I inherited this laptop, the HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-dk0055nr, last July. Sadly, it belonged to my younger brother, who died last year from a fentanyl overdose along with my father. As next of kin I went to their apartment to clean it out and recover their valuables. I'm having some issues with it however...

The laptop started out with 8gigs of RAM, but I was able to upgrade it with two 16gig sticks so I have 32gigs now. The SSD on this machine is only 256g. I bought a 1t SSD to replace it, however I'm afraid to replace it and have issues with reinstalling the OS. Would I have to completely reinstall Windows 11 if I replace this SSD with a brand new one?

I've also been having issues with downloading and saving documents on this machine. For example, I'm using my Microsoft Word account, and whenever I try to save a document onto this machine I get an error message saying I do not have permission to do that. Is this because the machine and the OS are licensed under my late brother's name? Since it's my late brother's laptop and everything is in his name, can the ,machine and the Windows 11 license be transferred to me? Would this solve the issue? Would this also make it easier for me to replace the SSD? What exactly do I need to do?

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for you help in this matter.

How do you access to your machine now ? Using your brother's login id or new id. The Windows license does not contain owner but the machine itself therefore you don't need to transfer.

Saving files may associate with owner you can change owner using Administrator login. Do you have Admin right now ?

Regards.
