Product : HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec1025ax
Issue: I recently installed SK Hynix 8gb Ram in the second slot, CPUZ software detects it but my task manager, system information and BIOS shows only 8gb. The RAMs used are of same rank and frequency.
I have cleaned teh slots, both memories work fine I tested by installing new RAM in first slot but where as when I just put one stick in second slot and leave the first one empty it doesnt work, laptop doesnt turn on gives a black screen. I tried resetting the CMOS, updated the BIOS from HP support app, windows is updated. I consulated the manuals it says nothing about installation of memories or configuring them. So please help me. Hi @rrav007,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  1. Are both RAM sticks exactly the same model, frequency, and voltage, or just the same capacity?
  2. When you boot with only the original RAM in slot 1 and the new stick in slot 2, does the system detect anything at all in BIOS?
  3. Have you tried reseating the RAM multiple times, applying firm but gentle pressure?

Troubleshooting steps to try:

1. Test each slot individually

  • You mentioned the second slot alone doesn’t work. Try:
    • Original RAM in slot 2 only → Does it boot?
    • New RAM in slot 1 only → Does it boot?

This helps confirm whether the second slot itself is functional.

2. Test both sticks together in different slots

  • Original RAM in slot 1 + New RAM in slot 2 (as you did) → Only first stick detected
  • Swap positions: New RAM in slot 1 + Original RAM in slot 2 → Does the same happen?

3. Check BIOS for memory settings

  • Enter BIOS (usually F10 at boot)
  • Look for settings like:
    • Memory remap
    • Dual-channel mode
    • Ensure no memory restrictions or limitations are enabled

4. Update firmware and perform full CMOS reset

  • You mentioned BIOS is updated also try a full CMOS reset by removing the battery if possible (some models allow it via BIOS or short jumper).
    I hope this helps.
