OMEN by HP 15-dc1065no

I am experiencing a persistent issue with my HP Omen 15-dc1 laptop after performing a clean installation of Windows.

The integrated Intel GPU (Intel UHD Graphics 630) is no longer detected correctly. In Device Manager, the device either does not appear at all or is listed as "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" with the following error:

"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"
"A device object name could not be found."

I have tried the following steps:

  • Completely uninstalled the device using DDU in Safe Mode

  • Attempted manual driver installation using both Intel's latest drivers (v31.0.101.2135) and older versions (e.g. v30.0.101.1069)

  • Updated Windows fully

  • Verified that the correct CPU is installed (Intel Core i7-9750H, which should support Intel UHD Graphics 630)

  • Attempted to access BIOS settings, but the advanced options related to integrated graphics are locked

Despite all this, the system only detects the NVIDIA GPU. It appears that the integrated Intel GPU may be either disabled or blocked at a BIOS/firmware level, and I cannot change it due to locked BIOS settings.

Could you please help me with:

  1. Unlocking or accessing advanced BIOS settings related to graphics or iGPU

  2. Confirming whether the Intel UHD Graphics 630 is meant to be active in this laptop model

  3. Providing any firmware or driver recommendations to solve this issue

Thank you in advance for your help.

@Hasso97, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
We see that you are facing a persistent issue with your Intel iGPU (UHD 630) not being detected after a clean Windows installation on your HP OMEN 15-dc1065no (i7-9750H + NVIDIA GTX/RTX GPU). Thanks for detailing your steps — you've covered most common ones, which helps narrow things down.

Why the Intel iGPU Might Not Be Detected

A. BIOS/UEFI Might Be Set to dGPU-Only Mode

  • On some OMEN models, HP BIOS may automatically disable iGPU when using MUX-less configurations or in discrete-only mode.
  • Unfortunately, HP BIOS is locked and advanced graphics options are hidden, unless you're using a dev/debug version (not publicly available).

B. Firmware Bug or Configuration Corruption

  • A clean install may reset internal firmware config flags or default to discrete-only mode due to a BIOS quirk.

C. Windows Driver Stack Conflict

  • Windows might incorrectly fallback to "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" if:
    • The iGPU is logically present but functionally blocked.
    • There’s a registry or ACPI/dynamic enumeration issue.

Confirmation Steps

Check iGPU Presence in System Info

  • Open MSINFO32 > Look under Components > Display.
  • If only the NVIDIA GPU appears, iGPU is not enumerated by ACPI → likely BIOS-disabled.

What You Can Do

Reset BIOS Defaults

Even if options are hidden:

  • Reboot and tap ESC > F10 (BIOS).
  • Go to Exit tab > Select Load Setup Defaults > Save & Exit.

Then boot into Windows and check Device Manager again.

Force Detection via INF Installation

If iGPU still shows as “Microsoft Basic Display Adapter”:

  • Download the Intel UHD 630 driver (latest or OEM version).
  • Extract it (don’t run the installer).
  • Open Device Manager > Right-click on Microsoft Basic Display Adapter > Update Driver > “Browse my computer…” > Navigate to extracted INF folder.

If it fails with Code 31 again, the GPU is likely not properly powered or enumerated.

Check for Hybrid GPU Option via HP BIOS Hotkey Diagnostics

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Press and hold Win + B while pressing the Power button for 2-3 seconds. This sometimes boots into HP’s BIOS recovery environment or hidden BIOS menus on OMEN laptops.

Update BIOS to the Latest Version

Your model's BIOS may have bugfixes or toggles internally for hybrid graphics.

Then reset BIOS again afterward.

Use Ubuntu Live USB to Confirm Hardware

Boot from an Ubuntu USB:

  • If both i915 (Intel) and nouveau/nvidia are seen in lshw -c display, then hardware is fine.
  • If only NVIDIA is present, the iGPU is likely disabled at firmware level.

This avoids Windows interference.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
