Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I bought an MSI MAG 27CQ6F external monitor that goes up to 180Hz in 2K, in theory. But apparently I'm limited to 144Hz because I'm using HDMI instead of DisplayPort.
The problem is that I don't have a DisplayPort connection on my Victus by HP Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000.
I need those 180Hz for competitive gaming. Is there a solution?

@passphax, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Your Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000 is currently limited to 144Hz refresh rate when using HDMI, as you mentioned. Unfortunately, this particular model does not include a DisplayPort output, which is typically required to achieve higher refresh rates like 180Hz in high-resolution settings like 2K.

Here are a few possible solutions to achieve higher refresh rates:

External USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter: If your laptop has a USB Type-C port that supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode, you can purchase an external adapter to convert the USB-C output to DisplayPort. This would potentially allow you to achieve up to 180Hz on your external monitor.

Check for High-Speed HDMI: Verify if your HDMI cable is a high-speed or ultra-high-speed HDMI that supports higher refresh rates. While it's less common, newer HDMI standards (like HDMI 2.1) can sometimes support higher refresh rates.

Graphics Drivers and Monitor Settings: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up-to-date and verify the monitor settings to confirm you are using settings that allow for higher refresh rates.

Unfortunately, if your hardware does not support DisplayPort via USB-C or does not have an HDMI capable of 180Hz at 2K, reaching that refresh rate might not be possible. It's always a good idea to consult with HP support or check the user manual for your specific model to see if there are other potential configuration settings or updates.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
