Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution

My laptop keyboard has stopped working from today morning, I'm currently typing from another keyboard which is connected to my laptop via USB. My laptop keyboard is physically clean, and it has no issues, I'm convinced it's some software issue as I was cleaning up some of the junk files today and did some modifications watching a YouTube tutorial to make your pc faster and after a few changes when I restarted my laptop my laptop keyboard wasn't working and the battery icon wasn't showing on my laptop

Hi @PRIYANX,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the issue with your laptop keyboard and missing battery icon could be related to the changes made while following the tutorial to speed up your PC. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and fix these issues.

Re-enable the Keyboard Driver

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Keyboards.
  • Right-click your laptop's keyboard (it might say "Standard PS/2 Keyboard") and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop, and Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

Check for Disabled Services

  • Open the Run dialog box (Windows + R), type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll down to Human Interface Device Service and Windows Update services.
  • Make sure their status is Running. If not, right-click each, choose Start, and set their Startup type to Automatic.

Re-enable the Battery Icon

  • Open Settings (Windows + I) and go to Personalization > Taskbar.
  • Click Turn system icons on or off.
  • Make sure the Power (battery) icon is set to On.

Undo the Recent Changes

  • If you remember the steps you followed from the YouTube video, try reversing any registry or service changes you made.
  • Alternatively, you can perform a System Restore to roll back to a point before the changes:
    • Open the Run dialog box, type rstrui.exe, and press Enter.
    • Follow the prompts to restore your system to an earlier date.

Run a System File Check

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator (Windows + X, then choose Command Prompt (Admin)).
  • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
  • Let the scan complete and follow any repair instructions.

Check for Windows Updates

  • Open Settings (Windows + I), go to Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for any pending updates.
  • Sometimes, driver updates are delivered through Windows Update that could resolve the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
