My gaming laptop has an issue where when i run a game on max frames it just randomly turns off with no prominent cause. usually when i run omen studios it crashes anyway. My temps never exceed 90c and it still crashes at even 70c. i checked all of my bios and it said that they're up to date along with my drivers and windows updates. i checked my power source and that's also good. if anyone has ever had an issue similar to this please let me know because I'm out of ideas on what it could be. If anyone needs more details, please don't hesitate to ask.

@SpoChilla, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!
I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.
The random shutdowns during gaming can be frustrating, especially when temperatures and updates seem fine. Let's walk through a few steps to help identify and resolve the issue.
Check Windows Reliability Monitor
This tool can reveal hidden crash causes:
- Press Windows + R, type perfmon /rel, and hit Enter.
- Look for red Xs around the time of the crash. Click them to see faulting applications or hardware events.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)
Let’s rule out hardware faults:
- Shut down the laptop.
- Power it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter diagnostics.
- Run System Tests > Extensive Test (takes ~2 hours).
Check Event Viewer Logs
- Press Windows + X → Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System.
- Look for Kernel-Power (Event ID 41) or Thermal events around the crash time.
Disable Fast Startup
Sometimes Fast Startup causes instability:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable”.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup → Save.
Test with OMEN Gaming Hub Disabled
Since you mentioned OMEN Studios crashes:
- Try uninstalling or disabling OMEN Gaming Hub temporarily.
- Reboot and test game stability.
Check Power Supply and Battery Health
Even if the power source seems fine:
- Use HP Battery Check via HP Support Assistant.
- Ensure the charger is genuine HP and matches wattage specs.
Update BIOS via HP Support Assistant
Even if BIOS says it's up to date, manually checking helps:
- Download HP Support Assistant: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
- Check for BIOS and firmware updates.
Stress Test with ThrottleStop or OCCT
Use tools like ThrottleStop or OCCT to simulate load and monitor voltage, power draw, and thermal throttling.
I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
