Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-e0000 (2V8Z8AV)

My HP laptop is stuck in a boot loop where, instead of loading Windows normally, it displays the message “Preparing Automatic Repair.” This screen appears after the initial power-on (often after the HP logo) and may remain for an extended period—or even indefinitely—without progressing further. In some cases, you might also see a black screen instead of the expected progress indicators.

This issue means that Windows has detected a problem during startup and has initiated its built‐in automatic repair process. However, the repair never completes successfully, causing the system to restart and repeat the cycle.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding an issue with your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand that your Victus by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop is stuck in a boot loop with the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen. Let's go through some basic troubleshooting steps to help resolve this issue.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off your laptop by holding the power button for about 10 seconds.
  2. Unplug the power adapter and disconnect any external devices (USB drives, external monitors, etc.).
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain residual power.
  4. Plug the charger back in (but do not connect peripherals yet) and try turning it on.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Boot into Windows Recovery Mode

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Power it back on and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly until you see the "Choose an option" screen.
  3. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair and let Windows attempt to fix the issue.

If Startup Repair fails, move to the next step.

Boot into Safe Mode

  1. Follow Step 2 to reach the "Advanced options" menu.
  2. Click Startup Settings > Restart.
  3. Once the options appear, press 4 or F4 to start in Safe Mode.
  4. If you can boot into Safe Mode, try the following:
    • Run System Restore (Search for "Restore" in the Start menu).
    • Update or uninstall any recently installed drivers or updates.
    • Run chkdsk /f /r in Command Prompt (Admin) to check for disk errors.

Check for Hardware Issues

If the problem continues, check for possible hardware failures:

  1. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:
    • Turn off your laptop.
    • Press ESC repeatedly while turning it on, then press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
    • Select System Tests > Quick Test and run it.

Let me know if this works or any error messages if occurs!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
