Microsoft Windows 11
Hi,
My friend bought a hp pavilion ec-2008ax laptop. It came with a 8gb 3200mhz Samsung Ram. This ram, single channel, by default was in slot 2 and worked fine. PFA the Samsung ram which came installed with the laptop
There is no sticker on the back side of this ram. Here are the issues-

a. He needed more ram for his work and studies, so he got a Crucial 16gb 3200mhz ram as recommended by the crucial website https://www.crucial.in/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/pavilion-15-ec2008ax#memory The model number that he ordered as per their website and the model number present on the invoice is CT16G4SFRA32A , but the model number mentioned on the ram is CT16G48SFRA32A. PFA photos of the ram from the front and back
What is the difference between these two models? There is no info about the model number mentioned on his ram on Crucial's website or anywhere else. Is this even an original RAM? There are people making threads here every now and then about people getting fake crucial ram's. Are both these models supposed to be single channel ram? The internet has mixed reviews for the model that he ordered while there is nothing on the internet for the model of ram that he received. Crucial's customer support in India is handled by Kaizen infoserve. Their customer support on phone tells us everytime to mail them but they never reply on mail. Have been mailing them from the past one week.
While we are on this topic, is CT16G4SFD832A dual channel or single channel? Again, the internet has got mixed reviews about this one.

b. Installed this ram in slot 1, Task Manager or Windows System info showed ram as 8gb only
Now Cpu-Z detects both rams, please note that cpuz is showing the make of this new ram as Micron so does that mean that this is a genuine micron lab? Can the scammers change the manufacturer name somehow?

One more thing, the part number of this new ram is 8ATF2G64HZ-3G2F1, hidden in the above screenshots, if we google it then it leads us here https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/micron-technology-inc/MTA8ATF2G64HZ-3G2F1/14553302
The websites mentioned above does not tell us the model number in which this part is used though. Let's for a second say that this ram is genuine then why is there no mention of model number CT16G48SFRA32A on their website?

HWInfo also detects both rams

c. Swapped Ram slots and now the task manager and system is recognizing the ram as 16gb and not 8gb whereas cpuz and hwinfo are still recognizing the total ram as 24gb

Why is Windows 11 not detecting both rams together as 24gb? What should we do?

d. Both rams are still in the laptop, can it cause any issues or should we take out one of them?

Connected with hp's support too. They said that if a customer makes any hardware changes then the warranty will be void. If a customer wants to add any ssd, ram etc. then he needs to visit the service center and they will install parts from the oem's with whom they have agreements with.

Thanks

You have to ask Crucial. Crucial and HP are not a same company.

Hope this makes sense.

Will surely do that. Now coming to the main query why is the Windows 11 that came along with this hp laptop showing either 8gb or 16gb ram and not 24gb? Other softwares like cpuz and hwinfo are showing the total ram as 24gb only.

Normally to get full benefit of dual channels architecture BOTH RAM are the same on both slot. You can use odd numbers such as 16GB+8GB = 24GB , 8GB + 4GB = 12GB .... but as mentioned above, you won't get full benefit of dual channels.

I totally get your point about the dual channel. But the issue here is that the device manager, task manager and system information show the ram that is only in slot 2 and not the ram which is in slot 1. Whereas apps like cpuz and hwinfo are counting them both. Leave the dual channel benefit aside for a second, why is the system taking into consideration the ram which is in slot 2 only? Keep in mind the samsung ram which came with this laptop, was in slot 2 only by default. Please check all the screenshots which are shared above once

Wrong place again. Windows is a product from Microsoft, HP does not own Windows (all).

With all due respect I am posting here after clarifying from MS and Micron. Both these companies have confirmed that this issue is probably with the bios or with something else about which only hp can confirm. I tested both these rams in a lenovo laptop and they worked fine. Hence asking here is the only option that I have.
