During gaming and normal use the screen, backlight and the power button light all starts flickerng and after sometime the screen is in very low brightness that is not even available in the settings. im unable to use the laptop for any purpose and when i ran diagnostics test during the fast cpu stress test it again stared flickering and all goes black. I dont know how to solve. When i searches for solutions the same problem was addressed by all users of HP Victus 16-S0095AX users. They all addressed the same problem in HP site and other sites such as reddit, etc,. I bought this laptop in september 2024 and it was very good in the staring and after some updates in the upcoming months it started behving like this. please help idk whether its a hardware or software isuue

Hi @BadriNarayananR

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for describing this so clearly — this helps a lot.

What this means

Not a simple software bug – Since multiple users of the same model (16-s0095AX, Ryzen 7 7840HS + RTX 4060/4070) reported this after updates, it strongly suggests a driver + firmware issue affecting the GPU or power delivery.

Backlight & power button flickering → That usually indicates power instability (panel not getting steady voltage), or GPU/IGPU driver forcing brightness to fail-safe.

Fails under stress test (CPU/GPU load) → This points more towards:

BIOS / Firmware bug (power management, VRM switching)

AMD GPU driver conflict with HP firmware

Potential hardware defect if firmware update doesn’t fix it

Steps you should try before sending to service

Update BIOS & Firmware

Go to HP Support → Drivers & Downloads for your exact model (Victus 16-s0095AX).

Check if a new BIOS (F.xx) or System Firmware Update is available. Many users reported this issue started after updates, so HP may push a patch.

Clean GPU Driver Reinstall (AMD + NVIDIA)

Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode to completely remove both AMD iGPU and NVIDIA GPU drivers.

Reinstall:

AMD Chipset + iGPU driver → from AMD.com

NVIDIA GPU driver → from NVIDIA.com (not just Windows Update).

Disable Adaptive Brightness / Panel Power Saving

In Windows Settings → Display → Brightness → turn off adaptive brightness.

In AMD Adrenalin → disable Vari-Bright / power saving on battery.

Check in BIOS

Some Victus models allow disabling Hybrid Graphics (forcing NVIDIA GPU).

Test with Hybrid OFF and ON to see if issue persists.

Roll Back Windows Updates

If it started right after a Windows update (Oct–Dec 2024 timeframe), try uninstalling the update from:
Settings → Windows Update → Update History → Uninstall updates.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
