Microsoft Windows 11

Hi guys i have a omen laptop 16 and I was just playing a game and suddenly the screen and keyboard lights closed, but can still hear the game. I can’t do anything. Tried closing the screen up and down and also press the shut down button for long and nothing is working. And now i m letting it die on battery in hopes that my screen reopens when battery is charged.

Hi @Henrykoo,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Omen 16 laptop might have entered a sleep or hibernation state, or it could be experiencing a hardware issue. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem.

Force a Restart: Since holding the power button didn't work, try the following:

  • Press and hold the power button for about 10-15 seconds to force the laptop to shut down completely. Wait a few seconds, then press the power button again to turn it back on.

Check for External Connections: If you have an external monitor connected, disconnect it. Sometimes, the laptop might be outputting to an external display, causing the built-in screen to appear off.

Battery Drain: If the laptop is still unresponsive, allow it to fully drain the battery. Once it's dead, plug it back in and try to power it on after a few minutes.

Reset the Power: If it’s still not working:

  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if possible).
  • Hold the power button for about 15-30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and the power adapter, then try to turn it on.

Check for LED Indicators: Pay attention to any LED indicators on your laptop while performing these steps. If you see any signs of life (like lights blinking or fans spinning), it may be attempting to restart.

Inspect for Physical Damage: If none of the above works, check for any physical damage to the screen or hinges that might be causing it not to open.

Boot in Safe Mode: If the laptop turns back on but the screen is still unresponsive, try booting into Safe Mode:

  • Turn on the laptop and immediately start pressing the F8 key repeatedly until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears. Select Safe Mode and see if the screen functions there.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
