Hi @Rith4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

The issue you're experiencing with your HP Victus 16 laptop, where it only charges when completely dead, can be due to several factors, including battery calibration issues, BIOS settings, or even hardware problems. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check the Power Adapter and Port

Ensure that the power adapter and charging port are functioning correctly.

  • Inspect the Power Adapter: Check if the power adapter is working properly. You can test it with another compatible device or use a different adapter with your laptop.
  • Inspect the Charging Port: Ensure the charging port is not damaged or obstructed by debris.

2. Perform a Battery Reset

Resetting the battery can sometimes resolve charging issues.

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Unplug the power adapter.
  3. Remove the battery (if it's removable).
  4. Hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  5. Reinsert the battery (if removed) and plug in the power adapter.
  6. Turn on the laptop and check if it charges.

3. Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated BIOS and drivers can cause power management issues.

Update BIOS:

  • Visit the HP Support page and search for your specific laptop model.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS update.

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure all your drivers, especially the power management and battery drivers, are up to date. You can use Windows Update or the HP Support Assistant to update drivers.

4. Check Battery Health

Windows has built-in tools to check battery health.

Generate a Battery Report:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
  • Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
  • Navigate to the location provided in the Command Prompt to view the battery report.

Analyze the Report:

  • Check the battery health information in the report to see if the battery is functioning correctly.

Kindly find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Rith4,

Please find the next steps below.

5. Calibrate the Battery

Calibrating the battery can help reset the charging cycle.

Charge the Battery to 100%:

  • Turn off the laptop and charge it to 100%.

Discharge the Battery Completely:

  • Use the laptop until it shuts down due to low battery.

Charge Again to 100%:

  • Charge the laptop to 100% without interruption.

6. Check Power Settings

Incorrect power settings can affect charging behavior.

  1. Adjust Power Plan Settings:
    • Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings.
    • Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.
    • Click on Change advanced power settings.
    • Ensure the settings under Battery are configured correctly.

7. Hardware Diagnostics

Run HP's hardware diagnostic tool to check for hardware issues.

  1. Open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows:
    • Search for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows in the Start menu and open it.
    • Run the battery test to check for any issues.

Tips:

To resolve the charging issue on your HP Victus 16 laptop, start by checking the power adapter and port, performing a battery reset, updating BIOS and drivers, checking battery health, calibrating the battery, and adjusting power settings. If these steps do not work, use HP's hardware diagnostic tools or contact HP Support for further assistance.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be a hardware problem with the battery or the charging circuit.

Contact phone support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
