Hi everyone,

 

The key for the letter x is not working on my laptop, at all. I try blowing into it, which sometimes helps, but whenever it does work, I have to press it and hold it for a while for it to work.

 

Any advice? I'm going to try to update the software and see if it's a software thing, but my gut tells me it's likely hardware related.

I understand that you are getting a keyboard issue, I am glad to assist you.

Connect an external keyboard and check if that works fine.

 

Meanwhile:- 

Update the Bios, chipset, and drivers using HP Support Assistant.

Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here

 

  • HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook
  • Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  • Click Updates in the My notebook pane
  • Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  •  Updates list in HP Support Center
  • Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  • Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  • Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also, ensure Windows is up to date.

  • Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Get a USB keyboard and see if it works.  If it does then the laptop keyboard hardware is likely bad.  Many people have experienced similar issues on Omen 15 and 17.  I had the first failure (Omen 17) on the "a" key replaced under warranty. The warranty keyboard failed again on the "T" key 10 months later. I bought a  replacement and installed it myself, was easier than I expected.  I had never installed a keyboard before. Laptop is 5 years old now and I use a USB keyboard. Its not the same feel as the HP one, I really liked the Omen keyboard touch sensitive and keyboard feel.   I could type fast on it. However, the constant failures were a headache so I've given up on it.
