HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop - 17-cd1275ng
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I would like to know can I install 32 GB of RAM on my laptop?

Product name : HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 17-cd1xxx

Motherboard ID : 8744

Processor name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz

Total memory : 16GB

The output of wmic command:

>wmic memphysical get maxcapacity
MaxCapacity
33554432

According to this, I should be able to install 32 GB of RAM. If this is possible, can you please recommend me which RAM to use for upgrading?

Thank you very much.

@kvele1,

HP only provides the manual for older 17-cd0000 series which come with Intel Core 9th gen processors, Page 1 of the manual states that series support 32 GB (2x16 GB).

17-cd1xxx models come with Intel Core 10th gen processors so your model should support the 2x16 GB configuration.

Crucial reports 17-cd1000 series support max 2x32 GB.

If you want 32 GB, you can use Crucial 16 GB DDR4-3200 memory. They guarantee compatibility.

Note that DDR4-3200 MHz memory likely runs at 2933, as that's the max frequency i7 10th gen processors can handle.

Hi,

I have purchased a Samsung 2x16GB, but it seems it does not work when I put both modules in.

So the 16 GB:

  • are working in case: when they are put single in the slot A, the one closer to the centre of motherboard
  • When they are put together, they are not working, there is a black screen and 3 blinks on caps lock
  • When they are put singly in slot B, not work and show the same behaviour as when they are put together

2x8GB are working fine in both slots.

The manufacturer of both modules is Samsung; there is one difference on the label:

  • 8GB module: PC4-3200AA-SA1-11

  • 16GB module: PC4-3200AA-SE1-11

Can I buy one 32 GB module? or I need to find 16 GB module with "SA1"?

Thank you.

Regards,

Ivan

Crucial indicates that your model supports 2x32 GB so 1x32 GB may work.

You already ran the wmic command, which reported only 32 GB (2x16 GB). The wmic command retrieves the memory information from SMBIOS table in your system, but I know the command sometimes come up with wrong values.

Your model may handle 1x32 GB or it may not. Only way to find it out seems to be to actually install it. . . .

See this interesting post.

You may try this solution: remove the memory and dissipate residual charge on the motherboard by removing the main battery (your model doesn't have a CMOS battery). Put the 2x16 GB memory and battery back in and fire up and see what will happen.

The person said, " After an extended startup period (3 - 4 minutes) of nothing seeming to be happening a message popped up indicating that the laptop would be restarting in the factory configuration. After the laptop rebooted I now have 16GB of RAM installed and working properly."
