I have an HP Victus 15-fb2xxx and the microphone does not work in any apps except for google chrome and settings. I've reinstalled audio drivers, checked privacy settings, and even reinstalled windows but nothings worked. I've tried multiple microphones and I know they work and they even show that they are working in the sound test in windows settings. Please help.

Hi @WetAstolfo,
Welcome to HP Support Community!
We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊
Thank you for reaching out regarding the microphone issue on your HP Victus 15-fb2xxx. I understand how crucial it is to have your microphone functioning across all applications. Based on your description, it appears the microphone works in Google Chrome and Windows Settings but not in other applications. This suggests that the issue may be related to software settings or conflicts rather than hardware.
Please follow the steps below to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Run the Windows Audio Troubleshooter
This built-in tool can detect and fix common audio problems.
-
Press Windows + S and type Control Panel.
-
Navigate to Troubleshooting > Hardware and Sound > Troubleshoot audio recording.
-
Follow the on-screen instructions to detect and resolve any issues.
Check App-Specific Microphone Permissions
Ensure that the applications where the microphone isn't working have the necessary permissions:
-
Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
-
Under "Allow apps to access your microphone," ensure it's turned On.
-
Scroll down to the list of apps and ensure the specific applications have microphone access enabled.
Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers
Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause microphone issues.
-
Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
-
Expand the Audio inputs and outputs section.
-
Right-click on your microphone device and select Update driver.
-
Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
-
If no updates are found or the issue persists, consider uninstalling the device and restarting your computer to allow Windows to reinstall the driver.
Check for Conflicting Software
Some third-party applications can interfere with microphone functionality.
-
Temporarily disable or uninstall any third-party audio management software to see if the issue is resolved.
-
Check if the microphone works in the affected applications after disabling such software.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved, and if you feel this reply was helpful, click “Yes”.
