Microsoft Windows 11

Hi guys, my HP Omen 16 won’t turn on. Earlier it used to turn off while running some games or other programs, but I could start it using the troubleshooting steps like holding down the power button for 60 seconds or windows key + B and power button simultaneously.

But these steps are not working now, and my computer won’t power on or boot up. When I plug in the power cord I can see that the LED lights up and the devices is charging but it doesn’t boot up

Hi @ich1go,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Omen 16 is not turning on despite the LED indicating charging, there are a few potential causes and troubleshooting steps you can take:

1. Perform a Power Reset

A power reset can help discharge residual power:

  1. Disconnect all peripherals (e.g., USB drives, external monitors).
  2. Unplug the power adapter.
  3. Hold down the power button for 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power adapter (leave peripherals disconnected) and try powering it on.

2. Check for Hardware Issues

  • Inspect the power adapter and cable: Ensure they are in good condition and delivering power. Use a known working adapter if available.
  • Battery test: If possible, remove the battery (if it's not internal) and try running the laptop on AC power only.
  • Check for faulty RAM: If you’re comfortable, open the laptop, remove and reseat the RAM sticks.

3. BIOS Recovery

The combination of Windows Key + B and the power button indicates a BIOS recovery attempt. If it didn’t work before, try again:

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press and hold the Windows Key + B.
  3. While holding those keys, press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds, then release the power button while continuing to hold the keys for another 20 seconds.
  4. If the BIOS recovery screen appears, follow the instructions.

4. Check for Signs of Life

When pressing the power button:

  • Do you hear any fans spinning or hard drive activity?
  • Do the keyboard backlight or other LEDs (besides the charging light) respond?

If there’s no response other than the charging LED, it may indicate a deeper hardware issue, such as:

  • A failing motherboard or power circuit.
  • Overheating damage from previous shutdowns.

5. External Monitor Test

Connect your laptop to an external monitor. If the screen is blank but the system powers on, it could be a display or GPU issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
