Hi @evanm1400,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your Laptop GPU that is crashing intermittently.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.
Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to fix it:
Power Settings: Ensure your laptop's power settings are optimized. Go to the Control Panel > Power Options, and set the plan to "High Performance." You can also adjust the advanced settings to ensure the GPU runs optimally.
Thermal Throttling: Use a temperature monitoring tool (like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner) to check if the GPU is overheating. If temperatures are high, consider using a cooling pad or cleaning the vents.
BIOS Update: Refer to the steps on this link to update the BIOS and let me know if that fixes the issue.
Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.
Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.
Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
Check for Background Processes: Sometimes background applications can interfere with the GPU. Check your task manager for any unnecessary applications running and close them.
NVIDIA Control Panel Settings: Open the NVIDIA Control Panel and set the preferred graphics processor to "High-performance NVIDIA processor" for your specific applications.
Disable Integrated Graphics: In some cases, disabling integrated graphics in the BIOS can help, though this may not be ideal for battery life.
Test with Different Power Adapter: If possible, try using a different charger to see if the issue persists. A faulty power adapter can sometimes lead to instability.
Reinstall Windows: Please click on this link to perform a recovery on your Laptop. (Take a backup of the data before performing a recovery)
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!
