Hello, I recently had this problem and IDK what to do, cause i tried everything, updating the firmware, go into omen settings, everything. Nothing works. I know it's not a fan problem cause if it was, then when I put them at max speed, the same problem would show. But nothing. Does someone have an explanation for this? also, at idle my pc is at 35°C today and the same problem showed.

Hi @Ailexpoptiger,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Victus 15 laptop fan keeps ramping up and down (speeding up, slowing down) even when the system is cool and idle, and you’ve already tried updating firmware and checking OMEN settings. Let’s go through a few steps to narrow this down.

1. Check Background Processes

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.

Under the Processes tab, look for apps using high CPU, GPU, or disk, even for short spikes (like Windows Update, antivirus scans, or background sync apps).

End unnecessary tasks and see if the fan stabilizes.

2. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers

Visit the HP Support site for your Victus 15 model and make sure you’ve installed the latest BIOS, chipset, and thermal management drivers.

Sometimes, fan curve issues are fixed in BIOS updates.

3. Reset HP Command Center / OMEN Gaming Hub

Open OMEN Gaming Hub > Performance Control.

Switch between Balanced, Performance, and Quiet modes to test if fan behavior changes.

If already tested, try uninstalling and reinstalling OMEN Gaming Hub.

4. Check Windows Power Settings

Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.

Select Balanced and then click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.

Expand Processor Power Management → set Minimum processor state to 5% on battery and plugged in.

This helps reduce unnecessary CPU spikes that trigger fan changes.

5. Clean Fan and Vents

Even at low temps, dust buildup can cause the fan to behave erratically.

Use compressed air to carefully clean vents without opening the laptop (if under warranty).

6. Run HP Diagnostics

Restart the laptop and press F2 repeatedly to open HP Hardware Diagnostics.

Run a System Test > Fan Test to check if the fan sensor or control system is faulty.

7. Consider EC (Embedded Controller) Reset

Shut down the laptop.

Disconnect power adapter.

Hold the power button for 15 seconds.

Reconnect power and restart—this can reset fan control logic.

I hope this helps.
