Hi @Michael956

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Your HP Victus 16-r0000 flickering and entering sleep mode repeatedly may be caused by a faulty lid sensor, power management glitch, or a misconfigured sleep setting. You can stabilize the system by adjusting power options, disabling fast startup, and checking sensor behavior.

I’m really sorry this has been escalating—it’s deeply frustrating when a powerful gaming laptop starts behaving erratically. You’ve already done the right thing by updating drivers. Let’s walk through a few targeted steps to help restore stability.

Step-by-step actions to resolve flickering and sleep mode cycling

Disable lid sleep behavior

  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options
  • Click Choose what closing the lid does
  • Set When I close the lid to Do nothing for both battery and plugged in
  • Save changes

Turn off fast startup

  • In the same window, click Change settings that are currently unavailable
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup
  • Save and restart your laptop

Check sensor and sleep triggers

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Sensors or System Devices
  • Right-click HID Sensor Collection or Lid Sensor, choose Properties
  • Under Power Management, uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

Reset power plan settings

  • Open Command Prompt as administrator
  • Run:
    powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
  • This resets all power plans to default and clears hidden triggers

Run HP diagnostics

  • Restart and press Esc repeatedly, then press F2
  • Run System Tests > System Board Test and Power Test

Update BIOS and firmware

Let me know if the flickering persists after these changes or if the diagnostics reveal anything unusual—I’ll guide you further based on what we find.

You’ve done everything right by tackling this early.

Thanks for the update—and I completely understand how frustrating this is, especially when the system keeps dipping into sleep mode without warning.

Since you only see ACPI Lid in Device Manager and not a full HID Sensor Collection, that suggests your system may not be using a traditional lid sensor driver—or it may be embedded differently in firmware or chipset.

Let’s build on what you’ve already done and try a few more targeted steps to isolate and resolve the issue:

Additional Steps to Stop Sleep Flickering on HP Victus 16

1. Check Event Viewer for Sleep Triggers

This helps identify what’s causing the system to enter sleep.

  • Press Windows + X > Event Viewer
  • Go to Windows Logs > System
  • Look for entries around the time of flickering labeled Kernel-Power, Power-Troubleshooter, or ACPI
  • Double-click to view details—note if it says “Sleep triggered by Lid” or “Sleep button”

If you see consistent triggers, we can target them directly.

2. Run HP UEFI Diagnostics (Offline)

This checks for hardware-level issues like motherboard or sensor faults.

  • Power off the laptop
  • Press Esc, then F2 at startup to enter diagnostics
  • Run:
    • System Board Test
    • Power Test
    • Battery Test (even if plugged in)

Let me know if any test fails or shows warnings.

3. Update Chipset and BIOS (Critical)

Even if drivers are current, a BIOS or chipset mismatch can cause power instability.

  • Visit:
    https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
  • Enter your full model (e.g., Victus 16-r0025TX)
  • Download and install:
    • BIOS Update
    • Intel Chipset Driver
    • Intel Management Engine Interface

Restart after each install.

If the issue persists after these steps, let me know the exact Victus 16 model (e.g., 16-e0000, 16-r0000) and whether the flickering happens only on battery, only on AC, or both—I’ll tailor the next steps accordingly. You're doing everything right by digging into this early.
