Hi @CosmicCuper,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like the issue with your HP Victus laptop’s speaker started after a Windows update. Since the internal speakers behave differently when you plug in a 3.5mm jack, it suggests that there could be a software or driver issue.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the problem.

Update/Reinstall Audio Drivers

  • Update the audio drivers: Open Device Manager → Expand Sound, video and game controllers → Right-click on your audio driver (likely Realtek Audio) → Select Update driver → Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
  • If updating doesn't work, you can reinstall the driver:
    • In Device Manager, right-click the audio driver → Select Uninstall device → Restart your computer. The system will reinstall the driver automatically after restarting.
    • Alternatively, download the latest audio drivers from the HP Support website by entering your laptop model.

Roll Back the Driver

  • If the issue started after the Windows update, you can try rolling back to the previous audio driver:
    • In Device Manager, right-click your audio driver → Select Properties → Go to the Driver tab → Click Roll Back Driver (if available).

Check Windows Audio Settings

  • Go to SettingsSystemSound.
  • Under Output, ensure that your speakers are selected as the default device.
  • Check the Device properties under Output and make sure balance for both left and right channels is set evenly.

Disable Audio Enhancements

  • Go to Sound Settings → Scroll down and click on Advanced sound optionsApp volume and device preferences.
  • Check for audio enhancements and try disabling them.

Test in Safe Mode

  • Boot your laptop into Safe Mode to check if a third-party application is interfering with the speaker drivers.
  • If the speakers work fine in Safe Mode, it might be an issue caused by recently installed apps.

Perform System Restore

  • If none of the above steps work, you can try performing a System Restore to revert your system to a point before the Windows update.
  • Go to Control PanelRecoveryOpen System Restore and follow the instructions to restore your system to an earlier point.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
