My omen 17 gaming laptop randomly shut down and went full black screen and will not turn back on and I have tried everything. My battery looks fine but when I plug everything in no lights come on and it will not turn on what so ever. I tried to hold he button down for 1 minute and it still won’t turn on

@Rylee7, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide for your HP Omen 17 gaming laptop that won’t power on, shows a black screen, and has no lights:

Perform a Hard Reset

This clears any residual electrical charge that might be preventing startup.

  • Disconnect the power adapter.
  • Unplug all external devices (USBs, HDMI, etc.).
  • If the battery is removable, take it out.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30–60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter (leave battery out if removable) and try powering on.

Check for Signs of Power

  • Look for any LED indicators (power button, charging port).
  • Listen for fan noise or drive activity.
  • If there are no signs of life, proceed to the next step.

Try a BIOS Recovery

This can help if the BIOS is corrupted.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but keep holding Windows + B for another 10 seconds.
  • If successful, you might hear beeps and see the BIOS recovery screen.

Test with an External Display

To rule out a display issue:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV via HDMI.
  • Power on the laptop and press Windows + P repeatedly to cycle through display modes.
  • Wait a few seconds between each press.

Reset the CMOS (Advanced)

If you're comfortable opening the laptop:

  • Disconnect the battery and power.
  • Locate the CMOS battery (a coin-cell battery on the motherboard).
  • Remove it for 5 minutes, then reinsert.
  • Reconnect everything and try powering on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
