HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2000 (2P6B1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hey everyone

I'm struggling with my HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2143nf (specs: AMD Ryzen 5 5600h with radeon graphics, RTX 3050 Ti, 20GB RAM, 01to ssd nvme ) and could really use your help. I downgraded to Windows 11 23H 222631.5624 hoping for better performance after experiencing FPS drops on 24H2… but the issue still remains

The main problem:Games don't seem to use my RTX 3050 Ti as the primary GPU, even though I’ve:

- Assigned the high-performance GPU via Windows graphics settings

- Configured the NVIDIA Control Panel to prioritize the RTX

- Updated all drivers through GeForce Experience

- Confirmed temps and fan curves are working fine (they kick in above 60°C)

Despite all this, I still struggle to hit 60 FPS, even on games that should run great with this setup.

Hi @akiziom17

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Addressing issues where games are not using your NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti as the primary GPU requires several steps to configure and ensure optimal performance.

Here’s a guide to help you resolve FPS drops and ensure correct GPU utilization:

Verify NVIDIA Drivers:

  • Visit the NVIDIA Drivers website to ensure you have the latest drivers installed for your RTX 3050 Ti.
  • Use NVIDIA GeForce Experience to automatically keep your drivers up-to-date and optimize game settings.

Configure NVIDIA Control Panel Settings:

  • Right-click on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • Go to Manage 3D settings.
  • Under the Global Settings tab, set Preferred Graphics Processor to High-performance NVIDIA processor.
  • In the Program Settings tab, manually add your games and assign them to use the High-performance NVIDIA processor.

Set GPU for Specific Applications:

  • Navigate to Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
  • Find your game in the list or add it manually, then set it to High performance which should point to your NVIDIA GPU.

Update Windows:

  • Ensure your Windows 11 version is up to date. Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.
  • Sometimes updates can resolve compatibility and performance issues.

BIOS and Firmware Updates:

  • Check the HP Support website for any BIOS updates that might resolve hardware conflicts or improve system performance.

Power Settings:

  • Ensure your laptop is set to high-performance mode in the power settings:
  • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and select High performance.

Disable Integrated Graphics:

  • Sometimes, disabling the integrated graphics in BIOS can help force applications to use the dedicated GPU. Enter BIOS setup and check for options to disable integrated graphics.
  • Note: Disabling integrated graphics might affect other functionalities; proceed with caution and revert if necessary.

Game-Specific Settings:

  • In many games, you can also set the preferred graphics processor directly in game settings or launcher options.

Check Task Manager:

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), go to the Performance tab, and check the GPU utilization to ensure games are leveraging the NVIDIA GPU during play.

Let me know what happens. You’re clearly persistent, and we’ll get your RTX 3050 Ti working as it should.
