Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding a Black Screen Except for Icons and Taskbar!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
There are several steps you can try to diagnose and fix the issue of your laptop screen going black except for the icons and taskbar:
Step 1: Restart in Safe Mode
- Restart your laptop: While it's booting up, repeatedly press the F8 key (or Shift+F8 for newer versions).
- Select Safe Mode: From the boot menu, select 'Safe Mode'.
Step 2: Update Graphics Drivers
- Open Device Manager: Press Windows + X and select 'Device Manager'.
- Locate Display Adapters: Expand the 'Display Adapters' section.
- Update Drivers: Right-click on your graphics card and select 'Update Driver'. Follow the on-screen instructions to update.
Step 3: Check Screen Resolution Settings
- Open Settings: Click on the Start menu and select 'Settings' (gear icon).
- Go to System Settings: Click on 'System'.
- Select Display: Click on 'Display' and ensure that the resolution is recommended and suitable for your screen.
Step 4: Perform a System Restore
- Open Control Panel: Go to the Start menu and type 'Control Panel', then select it.
- Navigate to Recovery: Click 'Recovery' in the Control Panel.
- System Restore: Click 'Open System Restore', then follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system to a previous working state.
Step 5: Scan for Malware
- Open Windows Security: Go to Start > Settings > Update & security > Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection: Click 'Quick scan' to check for any malware that might be causing the issue.
Step 6: Reinstall or Repair System Files
- Open Command Prompt: Search for 'cmd', right-click on Command Prompt and select 'Run as administrator'.
- Enter C
Hope this helps!
