I got a brand new Victus 15 laptop 6 days ago, I noticed that the fan whistles. after doing some research most of the answers say that I should clean the fan from dust but I don't think that's the problem because the laptop is new.
However, I found on a Reddit post that it's due to poor design, so it's an aerodynamic effect (which I hope is the case because that means there's nothing wrong with my laptop)
Should I be worried about this?

Hi @caesarof25,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
It sounds like your new Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb0000 is experiencing a high-pitched fan noise, which could indeed be an aerodynamic effect rather than a hardware malfunction. Since the laptop is brand new, dust buildup is unlikely to be the cause. Here are a few possibilities and suggestions to address the fan noise:
1. Aerodynamic Whistling:
- As you mentioned, some fans on laptops with high-performance components can produce a whistling sound due to airflow turbulence or poor aerodynamics in the fan design. This is a common issue with certain models, especially gaming laptops, where cooling efficiency is prioritized over sound.
- While this may be annoying, it doesn't necessarily indicate a fault in the hardware. However, if the noise is excessive or bothersome, you might want to consider adjusting fan settings.
2. Fan Settings in BIOS or HP Software:
- Some HP laptops allow you to control fan speed and behavior via the BIOS or a utility like HP Command Center or HP OMEN Gaming Hub:
- Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter the BIOS.
- Check if there's an option to adjust fan behavior, such as enabling Silent Mode or Cooler Boost.
- Alternatively, in HP OMEN Gaming Hub, look for fan control options under the performance settings. Set the fan mode to Quiet if available.
3. Update BIOS and Drivers:
- Sometimes fan noise issues can be mitigated by updating your BIOS or system drivers. Check the HP Support website for any recent updates for your laptop model.
- Run Windows Update to ensure that your system is fully up to date.
4. Temperature and Load:
- The fan may be spinning faster if the laptop is getting warm, even during light tasks. Monitoring temperatures using tools like HWMonitor or Core Temp can help you see if the laptop is running hotter than expected.
- If your CPU or GPU temperatures are normal but the fan is still making noise, it may confirm the issue is related to airflow design rather than overheating.
5. Cooling Pad (Optional):
- If the noise continues to bother you, using a cooling pad with external fans might reduce the need for the laptop’s internal fan to spin as fast, lowering the noise level.
Since the laptop is only 6 days old and still under warranty, you may want to contact HP Phone Support if the noise is disruptive. They can help determine whether this is expected behavior for your model or if there is a hardware defect. Or contact the store you purchased.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
